Have you had Gamma knife surgery? What can I expect?

Posted by ami83 @ami83, Jan 11 11:11am

My partner is having Gamma Knife Surgery for a meningioma. If you’ve had it can you tell me what to expect? Pain after? How long did your fatigue last? Etc. Any info appreciated.

@ami83 Thank you for taking the time to write. I am also a patient at NYU Langone. I am so grateful to everyone I've come in contact with and I have confidence that if my watchful waiting period ends I will be in good hands for the gamma knife surgery. I hope your partner is 100 per cent soon.

Thanks for the response. My partner watched and waited for 10-15 years. Her neurologist was on top of it. When it started to grow in the past year he thought it time to do something about it and recommended two wonderful neurosurgeons to consult with regarding options. Hope yours never grows.

@ami83 Thank you. Mine was nearly 3 years ago. The only problem I had afterwards was a headache for several days that the neurologist said was due to some swelling of the edema that sometimes occurs early before the tumor settles down. A short time with steroids reduced it and no symptoms since.

@ami83 Thank you so much. And it was so nice to hear from someone with experience at the same Medical Center. Wishing you both a happy and healthy 2026.
