Frequent urination with metformin

After starting to take metformin, urination frequency has increased dramatically, every 1 and a half to two hours. Is that supposed to happen or should the drug reduce frequency?

All drugs, medications, treatments, supplements and even minerals & vitamins have potential side effects. These possibilities are listed in the packaging information when the product is purchased. Read this literature when starting something new to find out if anything is concerning. Then you can ask your provider about it or even your pharmacist. A more efficient thing to do is to ask your provider or pharmacist about potential side effects when the item is prescribed (before you purchase or start taking it). Not everyone gets all side effects. Some people adjust to the side effects. Usually there are alternatives available if a particular treatment can’t be tolerated. There’s hope.
