Fractionated Radiation For Optic Nerve Meningioma Information Needed

I have a small meningioma near my left optic nerve that can be removed by Keyhole Surgery or a series of 30 Fractionated Radiation(SRS) treatments. I spent the weekend researching the possible side effects of both choices and would love any input someone has to offer.

@hdagostino I was incidentally diagnosed after a February 2026 MRI for sinus headaches. The headaches are not related to the meningioma.

Hi there. I’m really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I had a baseball sized meningioma also pressing on my optic nerve. I underwent a craniotomy for full resection & then 6 weeks of fractionated proton beam radiation. This was 6 years ago and I’m feeling great and cancer free. Regarding side effects: I can’t speak to the keyhole surgery side effects because my tumor was so large they had to cut from my center hairline to down behind my ear and remove my cheekbone in order to access it. As for the radiation, your side effects will depend on whether you’re doing proton vs photon. Do you know which you plan to do?
