FORTEO SIDE EFFECTS AND FORTEO & WEGOVY, ARE THERE INTERACTIONS?

Posted by vkmov @vkmov, May 8, 2024

Hello again - I was on Forteo in January for 21 days with no side effects. I had COVID, and went off it until April 23 and have now been on it again for about 10 days. I've noticed I sometimes get a swelling in the neck glands soon after the shot. If I apply warm compresses, or take a warm shower, and a low-dose Tylenol, it subsides. It does not interfere with my breathing whatsoever. Has anyone else experienced this? My second question has to do with Forteo and Wegovy. I'm considering going on Wegovy and am curious if anyone else is on both Wegovy and Forteo and if so whether you've experienced any side effects. Thank you for your time!

I was on Tymlos and had terrible leg cramps so my doctor gave me a generic Forteo to try for a month. I have been putting it off, because I feel so much better off of the Tymlos and I'm feeling reluctant to start giving myself a daily shot. Is weight gain a common side effect of Forteo? Have others experienced this? Not at all interested in having "watermelon belly"!

At least with Forteo you can always stop it if you happen to get that side effect, but being off a bone medication all together is risky if that was what was recommended. I had slight gain with Forteo, but lost the weight after I completed it. I was also way less mobile due to fractures at the time. 5 years later, I am doing Forteo again, just started 5th month and weight loss of 6 pounds, no gain in weight at all.

Thank you, that's helpful. Was Forteo helpful the last time you were on it?

I’m on Atorvistatin and I have experienced neck gland issues, a rash under arm and my allergies act up for a few days. Has anyone else had this happen?

I feel like it saved my life. I had 13 compression fractures one after the other in my spine. 3 while lying in bed trying to recover. We had filled out MAID papers as I just kept breaking and we couldn't get a hold of the pain. Forteo started working about the 4th month and my pain reduced and I stopped fracturing. Haven't fractured since and it has now been 8 years. They can no longer read my spine due to the previous fractures, but showed improvement in my thigh bone.

Thank you. That motivates me to get back on the horse (metaphorically speaking of course).

I have been on Forteo in the past. I gad no side effects as of yet.(it's been about 6 years. .so I think I'm okay. . I recently fractured 2 more vertebrae... so my doc is putting me on Forteo again. I'm against this and have more research to do. But I digress. Back to you !
How high is your BMI? You have to follow a fairly strict eating plan with the GP-1 meds such as Wegovy. They are new. Many of the side effects are the same. Do you really want to risk not knowing which med is causing the side effect ? Has your doctor actually given you the ok to be on 2 injections. Just throwing out some things for you to think about, before you and your doctor make that final decision. It's important to walk and do other weight bearing exercises with bone density meds... so chances are good if you follow a great diet while on Forteo you will lose weight ! Good luck !!

Hello. Let's just say my BMI qualified me for Wegovy. lol. I spent a year researching and talking to my primary care and my endocrinologist about the possible interactions of the two drugs similar side effects. I was really struggling with my weight and finally decided to just try it. I'm now in my second week of the second month and have had zero side effects and lost 11 lbs. My asthma has greatly improved, cutting down use of my inhaler by 2/3. I'm on the lowest dose. It seems to have taken away my constant hunger and cravings. I still get the leg cramps from Forteo but am resigned to them at this point. I'm eager to see what my DEXA scan is later this month.

I would ask your pharmacist if there are any interactions and side affects with the meds.

When I first started Forteo, I gained seven pounds in six weeks and developed what some describe as "watermelon belly" after my injections. Already being overweight, I continued to gain more over time, which led me to explore Wegovy as an option.

Now, after one month on Wegovy, I've lost 11 pounds, my energy has increased, and I feel much more positive overall. Remarkably, my "watermelon belly" disappeared within 24 hours of starting it. The only lingering side effect from Forteo seems to be occasional tightness in my right calf, which lasts for several days at a time.

As for Wegovy, I’ve had zero side effects—no nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea—just steady weight loss. So far, I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I've now been on Forteo for nearly a year and will be going for my DEXA scan this month. I'm hopeful to see positive changes in my bone density. I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

Did you give yourself shots in your thighs or abdomen? Could shots in the abdomen be the cause of watermelon belly?
I'm going to start Forteo and wonder if shots in my thighs would be a good idea.

It didn't seem to matter whether it was thighs or belly. Crazily enough, now that I'm on Wegovy, it doesn't happen anymore.
