FORTEO SIDE EFFECTS AND FORTEO & WEGOVY, ARE THERE INTERACTIONS?

Posted by vkmov @vkmov, May 8, 2024

Hello again - I was on Forteo in January for 21 days with no side effects. I had COVID, and went off it until April 23 and have now been on it again for about 10 days. I've noticed I sometimes get a swelling in the neck glands soon after the shot. If I apply warm compresses, or take a warm shower, and a low-dose Tylenol, it subsides. It does not interfere with my breathing whatsoever. Has anyone else experienced this? My second question has to do with Forteo and Wegovy. I'm considering going on Wegovy and am curious if anyone else is on both Wegovy and Forteo and if so whether you've experienced any side effects. Thank you for your time!

This is a good point @windyshores. The mechanism of Wegovy indicates regulating appetite via brain. If one has a general well balanced diet and just has a calorie surplus in general, then using Wegovy while on Forteo might be okay. For a diet that is already nutrient deficient, further restriction of daily calories might be too taxing on one’s body.

@vkmov, I didn’t have a weight problem per se, but was actively changing my diet in the past few years for cardio health. Eliminating processed food and go on a well balanced whole food diet helped a lot, although the lure of some “sin food” is hard to resist at times. I’m sure you will find a way to manage your current situation. Hope your FORTEO therapy a great success and please keep us posted when you can.

You may want to discuss this with your doctor if you are considered geriatric. It is from the Wegovy info.
----------+++-
Geriatric: In the cardiovascular outcomes trial, patients aged 75 years and older reported more hip and pelvis fractures on Wegovy® than placebo. Patients aged 75 years and older (Wegovy® and placebo) reported more serious adverse reactions overall compared to younger adult patients.

Personally, I would think it would be wise to not start both medications at the same time; maybe staggering the start by 6 months, allowing your body to adjust to each and being able to discriminate which might be causing any adverse reaction.

Thank you, I agree. I may wait a little less time but am definitely waiting!

Why did you go off of Forteo when you had Covid?

REPLY

I was on several drugs for COVID and was concerned about forgetfulness about giving myself the shot. I was mostly afraid I might inadvertently give myself a double dose. I live alone and it was all I could do to manage the COVID. I had to go to the ER in the beginning and was in urgent care three times. There was a lot going on and I was exhausted and didn’t want to make a mistake. My doctor said it was fine.

@vkmov my post was more of a place holder. I never like it when people come on and get no response (It has happened to me). You are a well-informed person and looking for actual real life experience and I hope someone chimes in! Good luck with Forteo!

When I first started Forteo, I gained seven pounds in six weeks and developed what some describe as "watermelon belly" after my injections. Already being overweight, I continued to gain more over time, which led me to explore Wegovy as an option.

Now, after one month on Wegovy, I've lost 11 pounds, my energy has increased, and I feel much more positive overall. Remarkably, my "watermelon belly" disappeared within 24 hours of starting it. The only lingering side effect from Forteo seems to be occasional tightness in my right calf, which lasts for several days at a time.

As for Wegovy, I’ve had zero side effects—no nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea—just steady weight loss. So far, I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I've now been on Forteo for nearly a year and will be going for my DEXA scan this month. I'm hopeful to see positive changes in my bone density. I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

I was on Tymlos and had terrible leg cramps so my doctor gave me a generic Forteo to try for a month. I have been putting it off, because I feel so much better off of the Tymlos and I'm feeling reluctant to start giving myself a daily shot. Is weight gain a common side effect of Forteo? Have others experienced this? Not at all interested in having "watermelon belly"!

lol. I hear you. I know there were others here who experienced it. It was from them that I heard the term "watermelon belly." I'm happy it's gone! I am taking the Forteo shots every other day at present. I felt like I had brain fog and more cramps when I did it every day. At some point I will try to do it every day again. I keep telling myself the occasional cramps are better than a fractured spine. Best of luck to you!
