Forteo and Prolia in Combination
I have been on Forteo for a year, and had some modest improvement in spine ( 7.8%)- nothing to speak of in the hip but apparently that is to be expected in year 1. The side effects are moderate. ( bone pain and nausea/dizziness) I have recently seen research that shows that prolia and forteo TOGETHER show significantly better results... any experience. I am most concerned with side effects of the two in combination - especially because some people report that Prolia side effects go on for months...

Bless your heart! Maybe McCormick would be a good fit for you. There’s also another one, Dr Doug Lucas, a retired orthopedic surgeon that does online consultations. But I think his is a bit more pricey.
My Body has had enough of the continual joint pain. I realize that age is against me but I have good mobility so I doubt that this is arthritis. But 8 years is way over what they told me in the beginning,
You definitely can use them together. I watched a video last night and the MD referenced it, especially if the T score is quite low. Go to youtube and look for, "Medications for Osteoporosis treatment with Dr. Marc Wein, Mass General Hospital Boston" and it's at about 1:08:30. The whole presentation is excellent and worth watching.
Hello, my rheumatologist recommended I take both these meds together, but my Endocrinologist told me that when given together, there was a high risk of liver (I believe) cancer. So, I'm staying on only the Prolia.
Has it been confirmed yet about the "liver cancer"??
I was diagnosed with Severe Osteoporosis when I was only 26 in 1986 where my Dr said my T-Score was so low that it couldn't be measured because it was off the colored chart and he said that I obviously had the osteoporosis for many years before that.
It made sense because I was in constant back pain as a teenager and was sent to chiropractor after chiropractor until one was very indecent and so I stopped period!
I'm now in my 65th year and I've tried pretty much everything for bone strengthening starting with Didrocal, Didronel, Fosamax and a bunch of others, with the last 3 most recent meds being FosAdvance with VitD, Forteo for 2.5 years where I could actually feel my BMD Increasing and I didn't want to stop it because it also gave me more Physical Strength!
But now it's been Prolia for the last 12 years because once I came off of Forteo, I could really feel my BMD Decreasing fast after being off of Forteo for about 8 months and then the Rib and Wrist Fractures started back up leading to Spinal Fractures, and then to where I eventually needed back surgery for broken vertebra's because I was playing with my 18 month old Grandson and when I went to pick him up, my spine completely gave out and I collapsed with all my bodily functions failing.
Once I got my bearings,
I eventually was able to Slither across the floor inch by inch getting carpet burns and making it the short distance to my bedroom, where I eventually pulled my bedspread down cm by cm until my phone fell off because I couldn't raise my arms but I was finally able to call my daughter.
Ever since this accident I've really wanted to get back on the Forteo because IMO, that truly was the 1 and only drug where I felt it actually helped and made me stronger. I was originally told that it caused breast cancer and that's why only the 2 years regime, but I'd like to know if it has actually caused any type of cancer? I definitely don't want to get liver cancer while trying to increase my BMD!
But, I'm wondering IF I can take it again now that it's been over 12 years? Does anyone know about this or has anyone been on 2 Forteo regimes?
And IF I can, I would hope to take it in conjunction with the Prolia, only because I'm scared to go off of the Prolia inspite of feeling that it hasn't been as beneficial as the Forteo was, but I don't really want to stop it just incase I do take a turn for the worst like I did when I stopped the Forteo over 12 years ago and end up with another broken back.
Anyway, thanks everyone for all of the great information, and good luck to one and all.
PS... I've had bone pain since I was a teenager and have never stopped having pain in all these decades and I'm wondering what or if others are taking something that actually helps with the excruciating around the clock pain??
I've been on opiates for decades but they really don't help much now, plus I've gone from 80mg down to 20mg in strength just to see IF I could handle not taking but the pain is just so bad and sadly I may have to go back up in strength and would rather try something else for pain, but definitely not anything that makes you drowsy because I have to drive to work still...
After 50+ years of living in bone pain, I'd give my left arm to know what it feels like to be pain free for even 1 whole minute!
Thanks again!
