Posted by texas5 @texas5, 3 days ago

I am 69 with hormone positive and her2-Stage 1 (14 mm) Grade 1.

Radiologist comfortable with me foregoing radiation treatment.

Anyone experience similar situation?

If no radiation, are you have any other treatment? Surgery? For me, I was stage 2 and had chemo, but the radiation oncologist had his team cover the radiation they wanted to do. Then, the Radiation oncologist sat me down with my statistics. He said based on my ER+/PR-/HER2+/Brca2, only 2 % of cancers have this statistic, so radiation may help 2% in my outcome. The side effects could offset that 2%. If I was his family, he said i would not do radiation.
What else is relevant info from your doctor about foregoing radiation?

I had surgery. And now on endocrine therapy (Letrozole).

Did you have surgery - you only mentioned chemo.

I had surgery and one side removed with an expander. I was supposed to have radiation then, but i ended up with the story about the radiation i told. So, a DVT blood clot appeared and i was put on blood thinners. I had my 2nd surgery and a dbl mastectomy 10 months after the 1st surgery.
I have been on Letrozole for 2.5 years. My journey started in July of 2021.

The only relevance the Radiation Ocologist saying the he would be comfortable me foregoing rads was that with my age (69) and tumor characteristics fell in line with the Prime II study.
He was aware that I was very concerned about radiation.

I am 5 months out from lumpectomy. I spoke with him again and he said his recommendations are the same.
Altho way late he said if I wanted to have radiation he would set it up but up to me.
He has never seen it done any later than 6 months.

On breastcancer.org I have attended zoom meetings. On Mayo the connect forum. A number of women have had radiation with lumpectomies. But it is a person-by-person basis. If fear keeps you from radiation, do it or don't, just put radiation in the subject line at mayo clinic or breastcancer, org forums. There are other women like you.

May I ask why you had a second surgery ten months later - you mentioned it’s a double mastectomy - just wondering why 1 month months later.
How are you doing now?

Thank you so much for suggestion!

I'm 76,ER + stage 2. I had a lump. 2 sentinel nodes pos. I chose not to do Rad. Had no chemo, but taking anastrozole. It is a hormone blocker. The radiologist agreed with my choice, or at least did not try to convince me otherwise. I had surgery in Sept. i am comfortable with my choice. I will update if things change.

Thank you.
Trying to make this decision keeps me up at night.
Did you have any issues from the removal of your sentinel notes?

Did you not have chemo due to a low onco score?
