Fluconazole or itraconazole for yeast infection?

Posted by emmabell @emmabell, Apr 11, 2023

I have a yeast infection and was given itraconazole. 2x2 morning and evening, for 2 days. I just kept getting worse so the next day I took a fluconazole as well that I just happened to have at home.

The next day I felt better and considered my treatment ”done”. But about two days later it got worse again and my doctor suggested to repeat the itraconazole step. So I started doing that today, but then it hit me - What if it was my fluconazole that made it better? Maybe I need more of that instead of itraconazole?

Has anyone experience in this?

How long after taking itraconazole do I have to wait before I can take fluconazole?

My dr is out of town so I can’t call her and well… This is a pain.

Unfortunately, I’m allergic to Fluconazole

It all depends on the type of yeast you have. I was taking diflucan appeared to be getting better than it came back come my to find out itraconzole worked better with what yeast I had. You have to get someone to run a specialized test - which is hard to find or order microgendx test in your own. Hope this helps.

I’m sure you’re better by now, but fluconazole does work. It usually takes at least 2. If this is from taking antibiotics, you might want to watch for thrush also. If it’s from sex, use coconut oil and this problem will never arise
