Flu Season with cancer: What precautions do you take?
First flu season with cancer, flu shot in October. With us being immune compromised what precautions do you take? It's mostly grocery shopping (early) and treatments lately and always wear a mask when out. Just trying to stay healthy without going crazy...

I practice COVID precautions. We can’t be too careful!
Hand washing and using hand sanitizer when I can’t get near hot water and soap. Gloves would be good too when handling shopping carts!

Happy New Year 2026
An N95 or KN95 mask should block 95% of particles that are 1 micron in size and larger. Viruses are smaller than this, but are commonly transmitted through sneezing, talking, and other areosol droplets, so most viruses are still blocked. Masks also work to keep your hands from touching your mouth and nose, so also lessens transmission. Decreasing viral load (number of viruses) can also help to lower the severity if one still gets sick. Masks should also be used by woodworkers, construction workers, miners, and others in dusty environments. A friend that taught me woodworking, decades ago and now masks up, has pulmonary disease from years of breathing wood dust (which is also carcinogenic). Surgical and other thin masks are only partly effective, and for all masks a tight fit is necessary. I use a full face respirator with a P100 (captures ~100%) and HEPA filter for my woodworking. If we get another pandemic I may use it for shopping (great for Halloween as well).
