First time nebulizing, kind of lost.

Posted by rbl @rbl, Nov 2 12:17pm

I was told to start nebuluzing albuterol and 3% sodium solution. I watched videos and looked at information in this support group. I finally got my nerve up to try it this morning and the albuterol neb went fine. I filled the neb cup with sodium solution and at first it made me cough, I turned off the machine to cough. I turned on nebulizer again, there was vapor but the liquid in the cup just didn't seem to go down, I quit after 1/2 hour. How long does it usually take and what could I be doing wrong?

Thanks, good to know I’m not alone! Our CVS said they don’t have 4ml so I should ask my doc about it.

I have had better luck getting 5ml vials, so I asked my pulmonologist to write Rx for XX vials of 7% saline - the pharmacy fills with either. If their computer insists the # of ml must be specified, you could ask the to write in a substitution of 5ml.

I men levalbiterol for 10 minutes and then 7% saline for 30 minutes. That’s usually enough time to use up all but a few drops of the saline. What nebulizer are you using?

Medline aeromist, its working fine now that I’m using the correct amount of sodium solution. How often do neb cups, mouthpiece and tubing need to be replaced?

Nebulizers including mouthpiece should be replaced every 6 months. Tubing should be replaced more often but like everything is this realm there are different opinions about how often, from every 2 weeks to longer intervals.

Now that ive finally gotten the nebulizing thing down, I am wondering what is the average time that most people use the aerobica to get things moving?

I do 3 sessions of 10 breaths with huff coughing between each session. I don't know this is the correct amount but I was told not to kill myself trying too hard

I have found that the Aerobika makes me feel lightheaded after nebulizing. I also rarely cough up anything. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any suggestions?

Thank you!
