What were your first signs of endometrial cancer?

What symptoms did you have that led you to your physician before you received a diagnosis of endometrial cancer?

I had entered menopause more than a decade ago so menstruation was done. I discovered vaginal blood one morning. When it happened again a few days later I realized that something was going on but I didn't suspect cancer. I just knew this wasn't normal. I made an appointment with a gynecologist. Within a few weeks I began having cramps like I used to have when I first started my period as an adolescent. By then I was already under the care of the gynecologist who did a D&C and that's when the endometrial cancer was diagnosed.

@daisy17. Whew. I'm relieved to know that you have an appointment with your doctor coming up soon. As others have suggested please do ask your doctor to follow up with an endometrial biopsy as she had suggested to you. It's good that the biopsy has been offered with anesthesia too. I agree with our other members who have said spotting or vaginal bleeding is not normal after menopause and should be examined carefully. I don't want to unnecessarily frighten you but spotting can be a first symptom of endometrial cancer. Have you been thinking about that and mentioned this to your doctor?

Yes, I will talk to my Dr about this. My recent ultrasound was normal with the endometrial stripe at 3. I had light spotting twice before. Once I had an in-office biopsy, normal. Second time I had a D&C, normal. I don't want to have to worry about this so would like a biopsy for peace of mind. Thanks for your concern.

Mine started as what I thought was a UTI. Treated it with antibiotics that didn't work. Thought bladder. Got antibiotics specifically for bladder infection. Didn't work. Pain got so bad I went to ER they did CT scan and found cervical cancer. Just had my 3rd chemo treatment. Diagnosis is Endometrial Cancer stage 3C.
My CA125 Cancer antigen was 1641 before 1st chemo. I'm having them every 21 days for 5 hours. The CA125 antigen after 2nd treatment was 744. I'm hoping it's cut in half again after the 3rd treatment I had April 24. This means that chemo is working. Hysterectomy is planned if PET scan shows enough shrinkage.

@daisy17 Good. I'm relieved to know the plan is for you to have a hysteroscopy and D&C. Will you have anesthesia - the light/general kind?

Probably general anesthesia since the D&C is considered like surgery. I had one a couple years ago so know what to expect. I'll be glad to get it over with and get the results.

@daisy17 I've had two D&Cs and was under general anesthesia for both. The anesthesia was similar to what I had during a colonoscopy which is, as I understand it, a sort of short sleep. So, it was pretty easy to wake up and the recovery time was very short. I'm relieved to know you will have the same as I did. And yes, it will be very good to get this done and find out what's going on.
