Finally coming to an end!

I know I am one of the lucky ones, lots of prayer and prednisone for me. After four months, I am down from 20 mg to 5 mg per day and not noticing any joint pain.

Wow you are one of the lucky ones. I was started at 20 mg and after 7 months I am down to 7 mg. I am struggling with this dose. It has only been 6 days but I am wondering how long do I go before I go back up a half mg? I’m pretty sore. Feel like I did at the beginning. I need to get off of this as soon as possible because of my osteoporosis.

I’ve been on this journey for 2 years and have experienced quite a bit of pain in my efforts to taper. In my mind, you are both doing fantastic. Please don’t be discouraged @bren0718, I think you are making record progress!

Thank you! I’m having a rough day and your encouraging words are very helpful.

What is your follow on when Doc says off prednisone entirely? No one wants to stay on any longer than necessary.

That is very encouraging, good luck on the rest of the journey. I am finally stable on 8.5mg, going to try a different reduction schedule for a while. Alternating days on 8.5 and 8mg over 4-6 weeks, then 8 and 7.5mg etc...its very slow, just gently nudging the adrenals back into action. Fingers crossed.

Yes, you are lucky! I was diagnosed eight months ago and am still on 11 mg of prednisone, although I have been carefully tapering down by 1 mg per month lately, so will soon be dropping to 10 mg and see how that goes.

Yeah for you! I was also able to taper down at about the same rate. I made the mistake of then assuming my body was ready to be off it…and kept tapering. I was off it at 12 months from when diagnosed but then had a flair. Didn’t realize it, but my body had become used to prednisone. I went back to five about four months ago and now down to 2 mg/day. Will go to 1.5 for a while then 1 for a couple months…depending on blood tests. My experience suggests go slow on final taper. My doctor said at these low of amounts, less side effects. Good luck.
