Fighting Infection with M. Abscessus in Tissue After Surgery

Posted by fraaron @fraaron, Apr 10 8:53pm

Had last 6cm of bowel, anus, and sphincter removed Feb 2024. Surgery went fine but pain increased exponentially after. Developed sepsis and found to have a deep M. Abscessus Complex infection. Teaching Hospital for a month. Now home and almost done with IV therapy, moving to an expected year of antibiotics. Anyone else fighting this?

@fraaron - While I do not personally have any experience with Mycobacteria Abscessus, there is a larger group of people on Mayo Connect with other Mycobacteria infections, principally in our lungs. Among the group are a few people who have dealt with M. abscessus infections - maybe @reneemc @thielmann1 @meadows or @rstel7272 have some suggestions for you.
