Feeling light headed

Posted by dad0229 @dad0229, Feb 9 10:21am

Hi Team,
I have been feeling very lightheaded and somewhat weak. My appetite is fine, my blood pressure is controlled, I am anemic, I have been thinking about going to er. Its starting to bother me at work. Anyone experienced this or similar ?

@dad0229 Are you in a position to take your blood pressure when you have one of these episodes? Have you figured out if these occur after specific activities, or body positions like getting up from a sitting position quickly? Keeping a log of when they occur may help your doctor figure out what is going on.

@dad0229 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Since you are posting this in the Kidney & Bladder group may I assume that you have conditions that pertain to these parts? I have CKD stage 4 and am being treated by a nephrologist. I also have related anemia. In the past I too have experienced bouts of light headedness. When that has happened it turned out to be a med dose that needed to be adjusted; a change in diet or hydration that needed to happen. For example I was getting too much BP meds for my size. I wasn’t getting enough sodium. I wasn’t getting enough fluids. In an effort to loose some weight, limit sodium and control fluids I think I had gone overboard and brought on the light headed situation. Do you have trusted providers that you can tell this concern to?

Thank you for your response. Yes I have an appointment for Monday with my primary care Dr She is going to evaluate me and go from there, however if I get any worse I may go to ER soon. How long did it take you to feel better after your treatment ?

@gingerw

Hi, Thanks for responding,
I feel this way pretty much all day. I do Security work and do a 3 minute round once every hour, I cant wait for the end of that round so I can sit down. So its really not a one time episode, but a continuum.

@dad2029 Definitely get in contact with your doctor. Tell them in detail what is going on. Is there a chance you are dehydrated and need to drink more fluids during the course of your day/shift?

On second thought maybe more water is needed. Is drinking more fluids okay with stage 3b CKD ?

@dad0229 Unless your nephrologist has restricted your fluid intake, the typical daily amount is 64 ounces. If you experience fluid retention, your doctor might decrease that amount somewhat.

I seen my Nephrologist on 1/24/24 and did a full panel blood and urine but they have not gone over my lab results, and I cant get in touch with them via my Portal, Im very discouraged about that and disappointed.

Hang in there. Perhaps try a phone call to the office directly.
Enough time has passed since 1/ 24 that the results should be in
