Fatique and Hot Flashes

Posted by ranxi @ranxi, Feb 20 5:52pm

I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with mild MAC and have been on Azithromycin and Ethambutol since, plus Arikayce the past 2 years.

Lately I have been experiencing significant Fatigue the next day after Arikayce treatment night before. So, on Drs advice suspended Arikayce for a week. Helped initially but Fatigue came back today. Hot flashes are nearly constant and have been bad for many weeks.

I suspect the hot flashes are due to MAC. Is there any medication (other than hormones) for that?
Could the fatigue be due to MAC or more likely related to the Arikayce?
I'm waiting on insurance approval to go to National Jewish.

If hot flashes are caused by anything other than menopause I don't think hormones would help. If they are due to menopause, hormones are a blessing. The bad press they were getting turned out to be misleading. If you have a mild case of MAC I'm surprised you were put on antibiotics. I wish you luck with National Jewish, I think they will be able to answer your questions better than anyone here (myself included!)

@brittany123 If you have Original Medicare and a Supplement Health insurance, meaning not an Advantage Plan, you might be able to refer yourself to NJH as I did. Call NJH and as for the financial department. They might give information to help you.

@ljostroga1973 What insurance carrier are you with on your Medicare Advantage plan? And is it an HMO or PPO? I'm on a Medicare Advantage HMO plan and NJH is not in my plan's network unfortunately. I will probably switch to an Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO next year which contracts with NJH.
