Eye drops make my eyes more dry

Posted by catgirl309 @catgirl309, Sep 17, 2023

I started to use Bio True I find it been making my eyes more dry. Had anyone experienced this before. Is there an eye drop that works better? I was using Systane Ultra & it did the same thing.

@catgirl309 I understand the situation because I too had very dry eyes.
First, don’t use drops that say they reduce redness.
Use only preservative free drops.
Use them often throughout the day.

For me, I usually use Refresh drops. They work the best for me.

Alternatively you can try gels or even ointments. It will cause some blurry vision for a while, but the pain will be less.

Try Oasis eye drops. They’re Glycerin and hyaluronic acid. And preservative free. The only ones I can use that dont irritate my eyes.

I only use preservative free eyedrops. The best ones (not irritating) for me are Refresh Optive, Oasis, and Optive

I too, only use preservative free. I check the ingredients and try to eliminate any that don’t work. I think everyone responds individually to drops. I have always felt comfortable using Refresh Optive ADVANCE. I recently am responding well to Bio True Hydra Boost. I use Hycosan ointment sparingly every night. Hycosan can be found on Amazon. As someone else said, use often!!! Best of luck! Dry eyes makes for some challenging days!

The third drop in my list should have been Optase, not Optive.

I also like Optive. I am also having good results with the new Systane Complete Preservative-free.

I'm jumping in with my experience with another possible option to discuss with your doctor. My eyes are dry, itchy, and burn during allergy season. I had been using Refresh lubricant eye drops, until my opthamologist suggested that I try Pataday eye drops once they became available without a prescription.
I cannot see the tiny print on the label to share the ingredients with you.

I also use Refresh preservative free drops since I can't tolerate the preservatives. It feels good when I put the drops in, but the dryness comes back in minutes. Makes my eyes hurt and causes blurred vision.

Pataday is antihistamine drops for allergies. It states use once a day for 24 hour protection. My optometrist highly recommended, but I can't tolerate antihistamines so I can't try it.

My dry/itchiness is due to allergies, according to him, so the Pataday works for me. Has your doctor offered any other solution to your dry eyes? That has to be absolutely miserable for you. 🤍
