extreme vomitting

Posted by toddmo @toddmo, Aug 9, 2023

My 29yo son has had long covid/vertigo for almost 1.5 years. The most debilitating symptom is daily nausea and vomiting. Dramamine briefly worked but once he started PT to re-set the crystals in his ear, he developed very bad vertigo and now the daily vomiting is back. He is awful and it is breaking his spirit. He is now taking anti-depressants and is close to becoming alcoholic.

Does anyone have any idea how to stop vomiting from long covid? Or who to see? Thanks.

My Mom had this issue. She pursued many treatments including vestibular rehab but the only thing that has truly worked was acupuncture. She no longer vomits nor does she get dizzy. Best of luck

Has his doctor prescribed Zofran? What is his primary care doc doing abt this???!!

yes, he was prescribed ondansetron initially but it didn't work at all. GP is basically out of ideas other than "it will go away someday"....that was 1.5 years ago. We are going to a neurologist a week from Monday....and he will retry acupuncture but longer this time...

Has primary tried phenergan suppositories 12.5 or 25 mg? Antivert or Meclizine is usually given for vertigo/nausea. The prescription Antivert/Meclizine in this works so much better than the Bonine or Dramamine over the counter. Over the counter liquid emetrol for nausea works sometimes. Also, valium is often given for chronic vertigo and nausea per a friend of mine who battled it for quite a while. It cured her. Praying much. This has got to be awful. I am so sorry for your son and praying for you as his mom.

I have never had covid, but have had vertigo for months .. then goes away for awhile .. then back. It does not appear to be crystal in my ears out of whack. Instead it is fluid in my ears. Allergies contribute .. so have to keep allergies under control. Still the fluid comes. Sometimes when I wash my hair the water gets in my ears .. sometimes I can't figure out what it is causing the vertigo. I use a homemade “dry ear” drops to dry the fluid from my ears consisting of half rubbing alcohol and half white vinegar.

A few years back I started using the Relief Band (the one with replaceable batteries) .. bought it on Amazon . You wear it like a watch, but the face side is on the inner wrist. It works much like a TENS unit. It helps with the dizziness and nausea. It isn't a cure, but helps a lot.

When I go outside on overcast days I get vertigo. The light seems to have something to do with it. I can control the vertigo on the overcast days by wearing a hat or cap with a visor .. like a ball cap or sunhat. I avoid looking at the treetops.

Best wishes to your son for recovery.
