EXtracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy?
Has anyone tried Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy? If so for what conditions? My physiologist just gave me a brochure. I suffer from fibro, myofacial pain. I get epidural injections and trigger point in SI joint as well.

I haven’t tried it yet but my hip dr has recommended it for a full thickness tear in my gluteus medial tendon after years of steroids. But I read that it shouldn’t be done on side of hip transplant so I have to look into that. I have SI joint problems too and just underwent a SI nerve ablation. I also have Meralgia Parasthetica, which is so painful I can hardly cope. I don’t know where to go for help with that. Hope it works out for you.

What treatment do you get for your facial pain and is it helpful?
When physical therapy after a total knee replacement failed to help and gave me bursitis and tendonitis in my surgical leg from repetitive strain injury I turned to shockwave treatments. Best decision of my life! It took two months of treatments, but I could see improvement building all through those two months. The results were remarkable. I could finally go for walks. At the end the doctor who treated me advised me to just walk gently and for moderate distances EVERY day. He said to stop the PT. He warned me to go easy and be gentle because any additional injury would set me back. A little every day is better than losing days of exercise to injury. He was so right! I finally came out of the deep depression that followed the surgery when the pain eased and I could go for walks. It took months of walking short bits every day to reach one mile a day for a couple of days per week. Eight months later I am walking and doing some therapy exercises and using an elliptical trainer for six miles per week plus hours of gardening chores. I have my life back. Shockwave therapy HEALS. I am so grateful for it.
Here is a second option to consider: After I started walking daily I came across suggestions from several people on this portal to try Esther Gokhale's posture exercises. I had some lower back discomfort that specialists told me was due to stenosis and arthritis. So I bought Eight Steps to a Pain Free Back by Gokhale (from Amazon). The book teaches how to stand, sit, and walk correctly. It worked a miracle for my back. The technique also relieved strain on my knees because the posture it teaches allows lessened weight bearing strain on those joints. I still use Gokhale's techniques.
I hope these suggestions may bring others some relief. Good luck and best wishes to all who share the misery of bad joints.
