Have done water aerobics since my diagnosis 10 years ago. I did 7 days a week when able. I don’t think I would be still here without the physical and mental benefits I have received from my pool workouts.

Oddly enough, I was able to exercise throughout my R-CHOP for Non hodgkins lymphoma in 2017 but now am having more trouble staying active. Recently, however, I have decided that my Bipolar, in a deperessive episode, has contributed to my stuborness regarding exercise. So my Psych Doc changed my meds, and I am back in the gym! I hope this lasts long enough for me to get back in the habit. Thanks, gp

@okah123 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Being diagnosed with a blood cancer is never any fun, is it?

Here is what Mayo Clinic has to say about NHL" https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/non-hodgkins-lymphoma/symptoms-causes/syc-20375680

What questions do you have for me?

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is treatable. What type of NHL do you have? Do you know yet? Have you discussed a treatment plan with your oncologist yet?

I would love to know how to get started with a safe exercise program that includes increasing flexibility. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2020 and have lost strength and a good amount of flexibility. I used to be extremely active. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Hi @sboes, I also have stage IV lung cancer and was diagnosed in 2020. The targeted therapy treatment has been a life-saver for me (literally), but it's also taking a toll on my muscles, ligaments, and time to recovery after soreness or injury. My YMCA has been welcoming and encouraging. There are group exercise classes ranging from flexibility and strength, yoga, cardio, etc. The classes that I have attended are filled with welcoming friendly members of all ages and abilities.
I was fortunate to be introduced to my local Y through a program called 'Livestrong at the YMCA'. Without the program, I'm not sure that I would have taken the first step through the door of the Y, but I'm so glad that I did! I was always someone that exercised alone, but that's certainly changed now. The program was free to me and was a great boost to my confidence in starting a regular exercise program. Searching Mayo Connect for 'Livestrong' will return posts from other members that have participated in the program.

Thank you so much for this information. I will certainly look into the Livestrong program at my local Y. It never occurred to me to check out the YMCA. I'm like you in that targeted therapy is life saving for me AND I have always exercised on my own. But it looks like it's time to update my old exercise habits.

Thank you so much for your proactive response. The samples of the operated lump has been sent for confirmation and to know the type of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The result is not yet out.
Below is the result of the biosis and recommended test which I am waiting for result.

Hi Lisa,
I looked into the livestrong program at my local YMCA and am set to start on 2/19. I'm excited. Thank you for the information. I had never heard of the program. The intake personnel at the Y also stated that a lot more of the YMCA's will be rolling out this program this spring so it will be more accessible to a lot of people. Thanks again for the info.
