Exercise and PN

Posted by birdman518 @birdman518, May 6, 2021

Usually I try to walk 4 miles every other day. Since I just started Medicare with AARP/UHC, I used my Renew Active to go to my local town fitness center. I thought I was starting very easy... I did 15 minutes on the rowing machine, and 30 on a recumbent bicycle. After it was over, I thought I would have some typical new exercise soreness, but it appears that it has aggravated my PN in my right hand and arm, along with my left shoulder.

Was I crazy to think that if I ignored my normal right hand numbness that I would be able to do these two activities?

Thanks!

My personal trainer had me start out on the elliptical, rowing machine, etc. using the lowest settings and for no more than five to ten minutes. I wanted to do more but followed her instructions and slowly built up to higher settings and for longer periods of time. You might want to try that… Good luck!

This is good to know - my husband has severe idiopathic neuropathy - sores on his feet - he ignored an infection and very recently has half his big toe amputated. He kept all of this from me before this!!! No longer, that is for sure. He does want to work out again - I will tell him exactly what you said above.!! He said he just didn't want to bother me!!!!! NOW I will be going with him to the podiatrist every month - and inspecting his feet daily!! He has numbness in his feet. I have to research this!! Thanks again.

You’re more than welcome. See if your doctor will prescribe Oxycodone 5/325 APAP. It will help him but MUST be no mor than 4 daily. The effect of any drug phases out after 4 hours when it is out of the bloodstream. Non-prescription stool softener taken with it is important to avoid rectal pain
Good luck

yes, do not let them tell you it won't help the pain. It DOES. Many doctors are now just scared to write opioids and it is somewhat of a hassle for them because I believe every time they write a new refill for the script, they have to go thru a bit of an online verification process. But like I said, it does kill a lot of my pain. I don't know where I would be without my opioid patch and honestly other than a bit of constipation that is fixed by taking Magnesium, it gives me no side effects.

AMEN: I just take the tablet-safe and effective as well as no real side effects with the exception of hard stools......easily offset the over-the counter’s softener remedy.?
So the two of us in our group are managing otherwise painful, difficult effects of the permanent nerve damage this neuropathy entails. Spread the word❗️Too many of the afflicted just suffer in silence and inaction🙀. This regimen should provide them hope even in the absence of a cure.

YES!! Chronic pain sufferers need to start speaking up. Drug abusers have made my life miserable. I would give my right arm to be on NO medications, yet there are people out there taking these drugs to get high. It makes me so mad my blood boils. Many pain sufferers are now being treated like addicts. I say, walk in my shoes doctor and you will be begging for some relief. My doctors have recommended me take at least 500 mg of Magnesium every night to offset the constipation and it helps me immensely. They said I could go up to 1000mg, but honestly I don't need that much. I also sometimes take over the counter Colace -non-stimulant form stool softener.

Well, having half his toe amputated bothered him, that's for sure!!!! THAT's when I got involved. The weird thing is he just has NUMBness - no tingling, etc or pain - I am looking every day for sores - he just sees a podiatrist - should he see a neurologist? The podiatrist seems very thorough - it is just his feet and ankles now - I read numbness is the final stage. heaven's!!! Oh, he ALSO is bothered because I am involved in this now - Nurse Horrible - I make him stop sitting at the computer too long and making him elevate his legs. I adore my hero and want him around - but I am still mad!! Men just are SO stoic - not mine any longer!!! Thanks for your reply - I used to write a humor newspaper column before I retired - but there is nothing funny about neuropathy, that is for sure. I wish everyone on here the best, I mean that!!!!!! I TOTALLY agree about chronic pain sufferers - I take a minimum amount of norco for my scoliosis - had to beg for that now - and the pharmacist is such a pain, no pun intended. Oh, I hope you feel better - everyone on here - neuropathy, as I am learning, can be the pits - so serious - I am trying to help my husband, he has numbness - do take care, I mean that! judyb..
