Exercise and osteoporosis based on t-scores

Posted by isabelle7 @isabelle7, May 17 5:45pm

Does anyone know what are safe exercises when a person has the t-scores and the fracture noted below.

T-scores:
Lumbar spine ( -3.30 )
Left hip ( -2.10 )
Right hip ( -2.60 )
Left neck ( -1.50 )
Right neck ( -1.80 )

Fracture: In Feb 2024 he was diagnosed with subacute mild T11 compression fracture which was new compared with x-rays of his thoracic spine in May 2023.

My husband developed PMR in May 2023 & Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) in Feb 2024. He's been on high-dose prednisone since May 2023 which is likely the cause of his osteoporosis. He was just diagnosed so we are very new to this and want to be sure we don't do anything to cause another fracture. I appreciate any information people have on this.

Margaret Martin at melioguide.com is a great resource on safe exercise for those with osteoporosis ( and fractures, though your spouse's mild, so serves as a good warning maybe!(. Martin has masterclasses, videos, and a book which I have on my bedside table!

A good PT can help with safe ways to move, though I have not found many who know about osteoporosis. I did find one and stuck with her.

I have found tai chi helpful for balance, strength, calmness and posture.
