Exemestane and heart palpations?

Posted by nyscof @nyscof, May 1 6:30am

On exemestane and having palpations for a couple of weeks which is a side effect. If you were on it and had those adverse effects. Did it go away eventually. I was suggested to stop for a while and then go back on it. I don't like that it's doing something bad to my body. Will I be trading heart problems for breast cancer?

My doc prescribed anastrozole.
Big problem is there is research indicating it causes Cognitive Decline. OUCH! Due to this dangerous drug, after she took A 5 years my cousin is now in a memory care home.

Anyone noticing heart changes should ask their oncologist for a cardiologist oncologist referral. I will be seeing one soon. Good luck with your heart and memory and staying in remission! 🙏❤️‍🩹

I have found same symptom with exemestane. It was really bad initially, but it has calm down some, but it is still there. I will ask my onco when I see him. Other than that, exemestane is a lot better than when I was on anastrazole - I couldn't tolerate that one.

Yes please read all the side effects of this medication. The uncommon side effects. I had the heart palpitations on all of the AIs. And took myself off of them because I was not told it is a pill form of chemotherapy. Joint pain was my #1 problem besides the FUNGUS THAT took 2 years to figure out, that it was due to all the AIs I was taking. I also heard that they don't due resurch on the low doses of any of the AIs . Call the FDA. AND report and side effects. I've been off of the Anastrozole since February and I feel so good. I also found out that it has caused my neuropathy in both of my legs.

@nyscof, I can understand your concern about the risk of trading one health issue for another. You want to do all you can to reduce the risk of breast cancer, but not at the expense of a heart problem. This is a good discussion to have with your oncologist. Do you know about cardio-oncology?

Cardio-oncology offers expertise in addressing heart problems, potential or current issues during cancer treatments. At Mayo Clinic for example, the Cardio-Oncology Clinic (https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/cardio-oncology-clinic/overview/ovc-20442193) evaluates people prior to cancer treatment and patients who have experienced side effects due their treatment.

How are you doing with the heart palpitations?

I am having the same issue - it started on/off 3 days ago. Today the palpitations are constant and I already have a cardiac arrhythmia. No one mentioned this side effect to me even though my oncologist knows about my cardiac history and I had an exam with my cardiologist prior to starting Exemestane. I won't be taking tomorrow's dose.
Best wishes to you.
