Excessive mucus production in the upper respiratory system and throat.

Good Afternoon, I'm looking for some treatment advice for my post covid chronic condition. I had covid Jan 2021, I was put on a respirator twice that year ( first time for 9 days, second time later that year for 5 days). My lungs were scarred and damaged by covid and my capacity has diminished to 46%. I developed a cough due to excessive mucus production that always occurs in the morning and randomly though out the day. The coughing fits will last 5 -10 minutes which can include a sense of drowning or a gag reflex. I am not able to identify a common trigger for these fits with the exception that bending over for a period of time or physical exertion can be a trigger. The mucus produced is clear with bubbles and there is no pain associated with the cough. I been tested for allergies, acid reflex, have had the Clarifix and Rhinaer procedures done (that was a waste) and have been prescribed many nasal sprays . I have seen 3 ENT's, 2 pulmonologist and my Primary so far with no relief. I'm finding the medical community I have encountered are unable to help me manage this chronic condition. I see many on you on this support group have a similar lasting condition. I'm hoping for some insight on a treatment you have received that has relieved your condition so that I can make suggests to my doctors. Thank you in advance for you information, John Porter

Less heavy mucus if I do not eat or drink. Which is impossible. Read one persons suggestion to chew gum which is somewhat helpful after eating.
I’m considering a feeding tube.
Mind clarity is better in morning
Able to talk with out lots of stopping for word searching is better in morning
Dizziness better in morning
Inflammation behind eyes teeth and ears all better in morning
head ache better in morning
mucus gets lodged low in my throat around swallowing area
and at top of throat

I had COVID 2 years ago and it's still with me too. The ENT said it would take a long time to get over but I think it is here to stay. Must be permanent damage but I wonder if it is damage to lungs or sinuses or throat or what.

I had covid 3 yrs ago with copious mucus in nose and dripping down throat. It has finally lessened. No ENT doc could help. I do nasal saline rinse twice a day to clear as much as possible. Waking up and coughing less at night. Slowly resolving. Finally. One doctor admitted they just don’t know what to do with post covid conditions. We’re on our own until research finds solutions. But current govt has cut back medical research unfortunately for us and millions with more severe afflictions.

I too, have had copious amounts of mucus for over four years since having Covid19 four times and received four vaccinations. I wake up at night and have to clear the mucus which continues throughout the day. The mucus color ranges from milky white to yellow to celery green. I use a sinus rinse and a prescription nasal spray. My PCM has ordered both lung and sinus xrays that show nothing out of the ordinary. Feeling frustrated!

Please read my comments on other's posts here. I am having real success with my allergist's prescription meds.

Hang in there! I truly believe you can conquer this or at least get it to be more manageable!!

clcarranza,
It may be difficult to find your other posts. What prescriptions does he have you on for the nasal discharge?

I too have been suffering from excessive "clear" mucus just way too much. My throat is producing enough for a lifetime each week. It is so sticky it had been stuck in the folds of my throat below my tongue and just above the entrance to my lungs. It gathers into thick lumps as large as egg yolks and simply refuses to be coughed, hacked, hucked and wind pipe blasted out of my throat.
I began to collect the jelly lumps of super mucos in to a glass jar. I kept the jar on my nightstand close at hand. It is when I lay down that the slow movement of this human glue that I get so friking bothered by the stuff and just can't stop the automatic throat seizures. Any rate, after I have filled the little jar of three ounces pure slime that I noticed that it had begun to get color, the color of pink. After one full week the color had gotten very red. The color of blood but translucent still.
I began to wonder if the teams haven't started to manufacture their own from of blood to continue to survive. It hasn't started to move around by itself or pulse by itself, but it has proven to be very interesting and casually time consuming (boring) and have found nothing more unusual to report.
I've thought of bring the red sample for a culture to be taken but my embarrassment in the (sort of) comical observation to be what I think to be as ( third person view) hypochondriac cage monkey flinging his poop at the passing walkers just to get some focused attention from any doctors to my plight. I'm saying that we all know the feeling of being left alone to die and there must be a treasure trove of clinical info worth a good hoarding and a slight reading. Who knows, that red jelly may hold the answer by taking two liquid benadeyl capsules as soon as I felt the killing affects of the virus hit me. Yes the buggs do act very fast. In just ten minutes I had only one cup of lung capacity, thus caused me to drop out cold before I could call 911.
I'm suffering than a box of rocks. Thanks for listening to my rant. Sincerely yours, I'm alive.

I think I posted upthread how saline nasal spray had really been helping my congestion, phlegm , stinging throat and watery nose recently. Well…….I kept the appointment with the allergist because it took me a long time to get in. (I saw this same doctor in 2023 for s penicillin challenge. Turns out after believing I was allergic to penicillin, since childhood, I’m not. Glad I made that discovery. ) Well, today she examined me, took history and ordered the allergy test they do on your back. Man, was I shocked! I had no allergies! The years I have suffered from seasonal allergies! Dust! Mold! Anyway, I’m no longer allergic. I am very happy, but I st have those terrible symptoms. Doctor said it sounds like an irritant is trying to get into my nasal passages and my body is fighting to get it out.
