Evista for Osteoporosis

Posted by mamabev29 @mamabev29, Mar 25, 2024

I am 70 years old and have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. My doctor suggested Evista. Has anyone been on this medication? Thank you in advance!

I have been taking Evista (raloxifene) since last May as I chose to discontinue Prolia. Other oral medications were not recommended by my endocrinologist due to GI issues, and I did not want another long term injection or infusion.

I see my endocrinologist early April and assume she will order a scan even though I am not due until September. I will let you know if it was effective.

I have had no side effects that I notice.

Best wishes with your decision,
Cindy

Hi! Just checking in, did you get a scan this month? How did you do on the Evista?

I did meet with my endocrinologist, but she wants me to wait until the two years since my last scan was performed to give the Evista more time to be evaluated.

Thanks for checking and I’ll report back in September!

I don’t know if I fully understand the process. Considering the issues and possibility of using Forteo. After Forteo then Evista and for how long? Is this a forever process where you go back and forth from one drug to another? How long to stay on Evista without BMD decline???

@ipg I can’t give you exact statistics as I don’t have them in front of me, but I stopped taking Evista last year because my endocrinologist said it wasn’t doing anything for me. My CTX score is high and I have backslid from discontinuance of Prolia.
Some may judge me or believe I am being foolish, but I am only using a cocktail of supplements that I have researched and I am ingesting 6 prunes per day. I don’t want to take the more “intense” drugs and can’t take Fosomax due to GI fragility.
I will have a bone density scan in September and will update you then. Thank you and best wishes to all on this forum.
