Evenity….stopped after the first set of injections…
Evenity was recommended by my family practice physician. I am now 71, relatively active, 5’9” BMI:19. My Ortho issues began about ten years ago when I had an horrific ATV accident. I had a T12 burst fracture and two pelvic fractures. I recovered well and then about five years ago, I had a femur fracture and forearm fracture from side-stepping. My physician wanted to place me on Fosamax. I declined based on all of my research which was incredibly negative. I decided to improve my bone issues through exercise and nutrition plus supplements. I seem to always be remiss in garnering enough protein. I significantly improved my T-scores for my Spine: -1.6 to-1.1 and the hip from -2.6 to -1.9. These were all that were measured. Then, I became remiss in adhering to my improved osteo plan for exercise and nutrition. Big mistake! My recent T-scores were spine: -1.2, hip -2.8, neck -2.2 and forearm -4.3. By the way, always use the same machine for your scans. After reviewing the new numbers, my physician recommended Evenity. Based on everything I have read, Evenity has the most success with spine and not the hip, etc. I decided to give Evenity a try. Big mistake! The hospital nurse could not have been more kind and gave me two injections into the abdomen. Lots of pain at the injection sites and minor swelling across my entire abdomen. Ugh! Barely slept. Horrible! I took Tylenol, iced the injection sites and massaged the areas which offered me some relief. I never have headaches and had a throbbing headache for three days. My shoulders ached on both sides and still do four days afterwards. Needless to say, I can assure you that I will never take another Evenity shot again! The risks significantly outweigh the benefits at least for me. I have read about positive results for several mostly with the spine improvement for which I know that they are grateful! I am beginning my previous regimen for exercise and nutrition and will keep you posted as I receive my next scan. Best to all!

What is side-stepping? Were your femur and forearm fractures due to trauma or osteoporosis?
I have trouble with a lot of meds. I got myself on Tymlos to build bones after fractures. The Tymlos pen has 8 clicks. I had side effects with 4, so I started with two clicks and moved up. After 15 months on 7 clicks I am finally on the full 8.
I preferred to start with Tymlos anyway, because you can apparently follow up with Evenity, but not the other way around. Forteo is another option but dose is not adjustable.
Thank you so much for sharing your information. It is very valuable to me. Side stepping is a form of walking that incorporates dance. You literally walk sideways. I am a distance walker and sometimes I get bored so I change up my steps. Not any more! LOL! My surgeon said when he was repairing my femur that my bone was thin so I assume the injury was from osteoporosis. This morning my doctor recommended Tymlos or Forteo or even perhaps Prolia. Did you have side effects with Tymlos and have your scans improved with its usage? Sounds like it is more flexible than others. I am relatively healthy except for my bones and I am frightened to take anything after my negative Evenity experience.
I had side effects with Tymlos when I took a full dose or even a half dose, but I am sensitive to meds and have occasional atrial fibrillation, migrianes, lupus, so am not a good example.
I was determined to get on it, and so I talked with my doc and we agreed I would start at two out of 8 clicks and ramp up. Lately I have been taking a full dose with few or no problems. It has been 15 months on a therapeutic dose (7-8 clicks).
I have a DEXA in March but my kids are amazed at how much stronger I am. It helps bone quality as well as density. I recently walked 22 miles in two days. Two years ago I felt disabled (fractures, which do heal anyway but leave pain and limitations behind).
My doc says he will never prescribe Prolia for me . You cannot stop Prolia without going on something else immediately. He joked he might prescribe it just before retiring so he would not be around to deal with the consequences.
Thank you so much! Might be willing to try this. How you feel is more important than anything else. Congrats on your long distance walking. Amazing! I am staying away from Amgen products…Evenity and Prolia. I would appreciate you sharing your improvement percentages from your March scans if possible. Thanks again for your feedback. Gives me hope that perhaps Tymlos can help my bone health! Best wishes to you!
I will share my results. Good luck!
Greetings @sedrake51, I am also a "trekker". A group of us maturing women decided to take advantage of our life above 5000 ft and begin an inn-to-inn trek every year. Vermont was beautiful, and Ireland was interesting. We love beaches and mountain sites. Like @windyshores, I ended up with two years on Tymlos. No side effects, easy to manage.
Good luck and don't forget to share what you learn so others can benefit from your experience.
I wish we had learned to sidestep.
May you be safe, free, and protected from inner and outer harm.
Chris
Thanks for your feedback. Glad that you had success with Tymlos.
I recently visited Lisboa and walked everywhere. Quite hilly in most parts of the city.
Great workout.
I will definitely keep everyone posted on my progress if I decide to give Tymlos a try.
Thanks for your kind sentiments. We all need to stay safe.
Would love to be part of your trekking group! Sounds like so much fun.
I used Prolia for 6 years with no problems and my bones did well. I’m trying to decide what to try next.
May I ask why you’re staying away from Amgen products in particular?
