Anyone had oral surgery while on Evenity?

Posted by bruceandruth1970 @bruceandruth1970, Jul 20, 2022

I am taking Evenity injections. My dentist told me today that I need a tooth extracted. This is not recommended while on Evenity. Has anyone had oral surgery while on Evenity?

I think that the best thing is to ask directly Amgen about dental surgery. Good luck!

has anyone been on bisphosphonates or evenity and had a dental extraction? did you get osteonecrosis of the jaw or do you know of anyone who got this disease from a dental extraction?

Sorry, I didn't. My doctor did make me go to my dentist to be cleared before starting the injections, so it really must be a concern.

I just had to have an old root canal from where an older crown had broken off removed last week. I am holding my breath that everything turns out ok. I thoroughly had discussed with my ordering physician and the oral surgeon before making a decision for the risk as I had a huge risk of not having this place removed. I am getting my sixth Evenity shot at the end of the month. I had a total hip replacement 12 years ago and infection from that root canal (if any) can travel to my hip replacement. I am also a diabetic, but I have had no heart problems. I also have a burst compression lumbar I fracture that has had a delayed healing since 2021 and has caused me to not be able to stand for over five minutes at a time. The spine surgeon can't do surgery to fix it until my bones are stronger due to an Osteoporosis dx. I was given a premed before surgery and an antibiotic for 7 days afterwards. I have also been rinsing with salt water and an Rx antiseptic rinse So far so good. I go back to the oral surgeon in one week to check the removal site. I didn't have much of a choice and I could not get anyone from Evenity to discuss. I have had no problem with the shots though.

I hope all goes well for you. My Evenity experience was excellent; my back and hips improved from -3.7 to -2.6. It was a wonderful surprise since no other bone meds helped over the 20 years I took them. I'm glad you have no side effects. Good luck!!!

I have only had one injection of Evenity. I am having oral surgery on Wednesday for an implant. I did not have a choice to have dental work done. Amgen was not very helpful.

has any one here actually gotten osteonecrosis of the jaw while being on fosamax. reclast or evenity and having extensive dental work like a dental extraction or a root canal?

thank you for your response'

I had a root canal done while on Evenity and all turned out fine. Sometimes, depending on one’s illnesses, if you can get a letter from your doctor listing illnesses (autoimmune disorders, cancer, etc), your dental insurance may allow for 4 cleanings a year. I did this and it is very helpful in keeping your teeth up.

That’s good information. Thanks

Be careful with that oral surgery when taking Evenity.
