Evenity and breast cancer recurrence
I had been seeing Dr. Susan Ott, an osteoporosis specialist at University of Washington for many years. I went back and read the notes from my last visit three years ago. She said I should not take Evenity as it may be a risk for patients with a history of breast cancer. My orthopedic surgeon and endocrinologist were adamant that I take Evenity. I have had nine shots of Evenity, now in a panic until I get my mammogram. I have gained over 10 pounds, a lot of it in breast tissue on Evenity. Susan Ott's website on osteoporosis is very informative. Has anyone else heard this from their providers?

I’ve had 10 shots and I now need to get a biopsy on my breast. I’m concerned about taking an more shots.

I am so sorry that you are having concerns about your breast after 10 shots. I still haven't cancelled my injection appointments for next week. It is a very hard decision to make. My balance is compromised, so I am high risk for falling. I passed out twice at home in November two days after my injection. I broke my tailbone and it healed in a month, not sure if the Evenity helped with the healing. I hope all turns out to be benign for you.

There is a misunderstanding on this post about what doctors may have said and the concerns which some doctors seem to have raised based on some theoretical research.
The concern is not for evenity causing breast cancer or a reoccurence of breast cancer.
There is no research or information that is tied to that. Indeed, there is research that is contra to this....see discussion below.
The concern about Evenity, primarily due to theoretical risks that it might have the potential to promote the growth of bone metastases or dormant cancer cells already in the bone, rather than evidence that it causes new breast cancer or even any clear research or population studies that show any bone cancer dangers.
All of this is pure theory!
If you think about it you can see why it is bone concerns not breast concerns. Evenity acts on the bone. It is a sclerostin inhibitor.
Some studies suggest that blocking sclerostin may activate signaling pathways (Wnt/β-catenin) in breast cancer cells that have already colonized the bone, potentially increasing bone metastases by enhancing the stem cell-like properties of those cancer cells.
There is a theoretical risk that anabolic (bone-building) agents like Evenity could promote the growth of "occult" or hidden breast cancer cells that are already disseminated in the bone, even years after primary treatment.
So plain language, scientists see that evenity acts on the bone and they want to do more studies to see if evenity and other drugs might increase microscopic stray cancer cells which were left from the breast cancer treatment in the bone. We all constantly have cancer cells in our bodies, our bodies fight and eliminate them. This all needs to be put into context.
Contrast with Other Meds: Unlike older bone-building drugs (Forteo or Tymlos) which are specifically contraindicated in patients with a history of bone cancer or metastases, Evenity is sometimes considered a more attractive theoretical option because it also helps decrease bone resorption.
Carcinogenicity and New Cancers
Current evidence does not suggest that Evenity causes breast cancer:
Not Carcinogenic: A carcinogenicity risk assessment, including lifetime studies in animals, concluded that romosozumab is not likely to pose a carcinogenic risk to humans.
Mechanism: As a monoclonal antibody, romosozumab does not directly interfere with cellular DNA and has no known genotoxic activity, making an intrinsic oncogenic (cancer-causing) risk theoretically low.
Clinical Observations: In small observational studies of cancer survivors (including breast cancer) treated with Evenity for osteoporosis, no cases of disease progression or recurrence were documented in the short term.
