I’m so confused. I have been diagnosed with sever osteoporosis and it was just assumed I would go on evenity. Went home, did some research, watched some videos, joined this group and now my head is spinning. Anybody got any helpful advice for me?

@eugenia Evenity is known to be the fastest way to "get out of a hole" (I think it was put that way in the book "Great Bones.") . It works really well, according to studies, but is relatively new.

The other choices for bone building would be Forteo or Tymlos, which are similar in their action.

It seems these days that many doctors are using Evenity. I did Tymlos first, because Evenity was so new at the time, and am now doing Evenity though my doctors say there is no data on this sequence (I have seen studies). I am often sensitive to meds due to some other health issues, and I also liked that the dosing on Tymlos is adjustable so I could ramp up.

Personally, I think research can be both useful and stressful. I succumb to it too. The choices at the beginning of this journey are pretty simple though.

It sound as if Evenity would be a great choice for you. If you don't like it, you have two other choices, but I hope you will try it!

ps Most people do fine on Evenity with few side effects. I try not to post too much about side effects but yes, a few of us have some that are troublesome and tend to post more than those who are doing well on it! My friends on Evenity and many on here have no side effects at all.

I did a full dose today!

As many of you know, I did Evenity after Tymlos. First month full dose with strong side effects, then did two treatments of a half dose and today I did a full dose again with no problems. My body seems to like to get to know these meds over time! Also shots in the thigh helped vs tummy or arm: a bit slower absorption. We'll see what happens when the Evenity peaks in a week or so.

No burning so far...first time without it.

I have completed 10 of my 12 shots. I started keeping track of how my back felt since shot 8. It seems that around day 11, 12, 13 after each shot I have a very painful day. Back spasms and aches. But I'm going to hang in there for my last two shots. Then I'll started fosomax and see how I react to that. I decided against reclast at the moment because I'd have to drive 90 minutes to get the IV and sitting in the car is not the best for me.

Hi, I would definitely try Evenity as gains are great usually. I did 11 months and stopped as I had very bad joint and muscle pain. It was hard but worth it for the gains. Not everyone even has adverse effects so I think it is worth a try if you want to keep active! The pain did subside after a few months and I switched to Fosomax which caused same issues then now on Actonel as I have way less adverse reaction to that. It can be confusing as each of us is unique but over time we each figure it out. These posts are helpful to identify options! Can’t let anxiety creep in, which isn’t always easy, but you do have to be your own advocate! Best to you!

I just had my second round of injections today. After my first injections I did some internet research (and watched a lot of YouTube videos) so I had my side effects all written down and the dates marked on my calendar when I had the pain in my neck and hip and the lethargy. My care provider immediately shut me down and said there are no side effects to the drug because it’s a subcutaneous injection. She said there is no point when the drug peaks-it peaks at 6 months. She even said something to the effect that it sounded like I was trying to find an excuse to stop taking the drug and if I search the internet I can find excuses for everything. Well, I’m kind of flabbergasted at this point and she then turned real nice and asked me about my Mother’s Day. I have pretty much committed myself to taking this drug because of my family history and I am 71 years old, 105 lbs., and had a broken arm in December (I had a bicycle accident totally my fault). I do yoga classes 2-3 times a week and practice at home daily. I am fairly active. What are your opinions on this situation? I what are your experiences with “side effects” of Evinity or just Evinity in general? Thanks!

eugenia689 oh so your provider forgot to read the package insert or even the large black box. Beyond that you have a provider who ridicules your concern with invented motivation and diverts the consultation to social nonsense.

My opinion? Your provider believes it’s okay to insult the patient. Like you, I record dates and changes in my functioning (side effects). It provides factual data that a medical professional should rely on to determine care.

I want to a gastroenterologist after working with my PCP for months trying solutions to my stomach issue (tests, FODMAP, etc). My PCP is excellent but decided a specialist was needed. The gastroenterologist, after talking with me for a short time, said “old people like you usually take Imodium” (68 yo). I looked at her and said I would not be doing any follow-up care with her.

I hope you can find another doctor that respects the info you’ve gathered, and listens to what is happening to your body.

It seems your doctor has not read the insert with info for professionals (which we can access too, on the Evenity website).

Evenity peaks days 2-7 with 5 days the median. Half life (when half is gone) is 12.8 days after 3 months. And it hangs around in the system, I believe, for 65 days.

Not only was your doctor wrong, she did not take the time to check her information and doubted yours. I know it is hard to find a doctor and the wait can be long but I have you have an alternative. That said many of us have found our doctors do not read side effect lists either, and say things like "I have not heard that from anyone else" when it is actually listed as "common" !
