Epilepsy - med weaning

Posted by shivb @shivb, Feb 2, 2023

Hi,
I would like to know if there is anyone who weaned off Divalporex when they were seizure free for 2 years?
Thanks,
Shiv

Just my two cents worth but I wouldn’t stop it until I had a normal EEG, neurological examination and MRI. Not that those things are a guarantee you won’t have more seizures.
Make sure you’re ready to potentially risk more seizures and if you drive, possibly having your driver's license revoked. Also you need to consider your occupation, if any. Just like the stock market, the past is no indication of the future.
Personally, I would feel more comfortable discontinuing medication after 3 to 5 years, but perhaps I’m just overly cautious.
Best of luck to you,
Jake.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions.

However, there are many successful cases and would like to hear about them if anyone knows here. Mayoclinic may have many success stories, but unsure. Usually when a patient is put on med, body gets used to it, and then there is no talk about how to get off and live without it. Our bodies are stronger than what we imagine, but there are alternative medicine ways which we don't have knowledge off.
Thankyou.

Statistically, the odds of not having more seizures are in your favor,
