Edema treatment: What did you do to alleviate swollen ankles, feet?

Posted by stew80 @stew80, Jan 3 1:42pm

Has anyone tried using water pills like furosemide (Lasix) to alleviate swollen ankles/feet? Since I've been on ADT (10 months) I have noticed swelling and it concerns me. Pre-ADT there were no swelling issues so I'm assuming the culprit is ADT. My heart is good, I'm slim, I work out, and I'm in my 80's.
Should I take action is my question. There is no associated pain, but the swelling is troubling.

""Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) symptoms include leg swelling, heaviness, aching, and cramping, often worsening with standing; varicose veins, skin discoloration (brownish, leathery), itching, flaking, and painful, slow-healing sores (ulcers) near the ankles, along with restless legs or tingling sensations, all due to poor blood return to the heart from the legs. ""

I recently finished a 3 treatment session for the left leg. The doc says that the discoloration may not go away. Not sure when it will appear normal in other aspects. It's complicated by periheral neuropathy /nerve damage in both lower legs. I can wiggle my left big toe, but not the right one. My toes are ugly because of hammertoe surgery.

Also due to fungal issues I had the nails on my big toes removed.

@bajjerfan Thanks for sharing this. Do you attribute any of this to PC treatments?

PC treatments? Not sure what those are. I've had CVI condition for quite awhile. I don't recall being treated for anything specific prior to that.

Thanks. I was just wondering about the side effects for prostate cancer treatment like ADT and radiation.

At my age my demise may well precede any PC. I did have an old acquaintance opine that if you live long enough that you'll probably get PC.

@bajjerfan True. No unique symptoms per se if it's localized. If all the markers lead to it being 'slow growing' the one can die never knowing they had some form of prostate cancer.
