Edema treatment: What did you do to alleviate swollen ankles, feet?
Has anyone tried using water pills like furosemide (Lasix) to alleviate swollen ankles/feet? Since I've been on ADT (10 months) I have noticed swelling and it concerns me. Pre-ADT there were no swelling issues so I'm assuming the culprit is ADT. My heart is good, I'm slim, I work out, and I'm in my 80's.
Should I take action is my question. There is no associated pain, but the swelling is troubling.

I take both Lasix and Dyazide [which contains the diuretic hydrchlorothiazide] for water/lymph fluid retention associated with CVI. Can't say that they do THAT much good. I believe they both help regulate blood pressure too. In about a week I will endure the third and last of the endovenous chemical ablation treatments for CVI in my left and worst leg. I hope to get off of the "water" pills soon thereafter.
Back in late 2021 I had both cervical and lumbar spine surgeries done locally. Both times my feet swelled up afterwards [the right being worse than the left] to where I couldn't wear shoes. Good thing it was winter so that my Sorel boots weren't out of place.
About a year and a half ago I had surgery at Mayo with no issues. Methinks that maybe the anesthesia was the culprit. You're probably right about the ADT.

2 ReactionsSome herbs have a diuretic effect. I used to have very severe swelling, but I used herbs. In a controlled manner, of course.

1 ReactionLasix worked well for hubby along with compression socks. Be careful though because Lasix can deplete your potassium. Had to put hubby on a supplement too.

The triamterene in Dyazide is supposed to prevent potassium depletion.
My lower legs weren't the puffy kind of swelling. They feel hard to the touch and the left one has the typical brown discoloration.

3 ReactionsHas anyone had very swollen feet/ankles after stopping Abiraterone and Lupron? My husband’s oncologist stopped his meds 5 months ago and then two months ago his feet and ankles started to swell and this has never gone away. He underwent radiation (12 weeks) and then he was on Abi an Lupron for a year. He is Grade 5, Gleason 9, decipher .99 and AR-V7 positive.

2 ReactionsSame symptoms for me. I haven't been on Abi, just Eligard and radiation. If it's an ADT cause I would have assumed it would not suddenly show up 3 months after stopping the meds. Maybe a delayed reaction.

1 ReactionWent thru a period 7-8 months post abi with ankle swelling. Still can’t wear boots 3 months later. Diabetic socks and sketcher slippers and elevate feet a bit at night. Almost no swelling currently.

1 ReactionMight add kidney chemistry, echocardiogram, ekg, and stress test all debunked kidney or heart problems and fingered abi as the likely cause.

2 ReactionsWell, it wouldn’t surprise me that ADT causes another side effect. I am currently being treated for swelling in my lower legs. I’m not sure when exactly it started but was being tested for carpel tunnel and noticed my lower legs were bloated. Went thru the test and surgery for carpel tunnel and decided to see a vein doctor, who said I had some issues and was treated successfully, however about the same time, my lower legs erupted into open ulcers. So I was treated for veins and a podiatrist for the sores. My legs are wrapped in a uniboot since July 4th. The swelling is gone and the sores are healed but the doctor is keeping me wrapped as the skin in my legs is very thin and easy to damage, but I’ll soon be able to go without the uniboot wrappings. As stated before, it wouldn’t be surprised it’s another side effect of treatment and showing up after the fact fits into the side effects. I’ve read that side effects can come and go after the fact. And so the journey continues. Oh, I’ll be having my 3rd year anniversary after treatment. Doing well.
