Echolight sonogram scan for bones

Posted by csday @csday, Jan 8, 2022

Has anyone heard of, or had an Echolight sonogram scan instead of a radiation DEXA scan? New FDA approved that has been used in Europe for awhile. https://www.echolightmedical.com/en/company/

You could google Echolight. Others have posted here on REMS. Anything that doesn't increase the radiation load might reduce MD's hesitancy to order BMD scans--the lack of which hampers research--is a great thing!

Hi Becky, I moved your question about echo light scans, or radiofrequency echographic multi spectrometry (REMS), to this existing discussion so you can read the previous posts and connect with other members on the same topic.

Here is an article from Mayo Clinic discussing advances in endocrinology regarding osteoporosis and predicting risk of fracture, ie, high-resolution peripheral quantitative computerized tomography (HRpQCT) imaging and trabecular bone score (TBS).

Does anyone know of an Echolight location in Indiana?

TBS is software in the same machine as the DEXA scan done at the same time. The DEXA is covered. The TBS is not. It's $50

TBS only measures spine. There’s no trabecular bone in hip according to my dr.

I had it done. Big difference from DEXA. Shows full blown osteoporosis. But it measures fragility of the hip and spine, which TBS only measures spine. The fragility score is really important.

@kakilong54
Thank you so much! I wish it was offered here in Florida but so far it’s not.

I’m hearing they may be getting one around the Tampa or Sarasota area. You could check with the company. Right now the closest is in NC. I had it done in NJ.

@kakilong54 thank you I will check into that I would really like to have it done!
