EBV in dormant stage, can it still wreak havoc on our body?

Posted by aidanchap @aidanchap, Oct 5, 2021

I have been dealing with EBV for the past 5 years (almost 21 now) and had constant bouts of fatigue and sore throat. July 2021 I went back for another CBC & EBV test due to another symptom flare up, but my results showed no current infection of EBV, only a previous one.
I want to know if in a dormant/hidden stage, can EBV still cause (POTS symptoms, digestive issues, fatigue, headaches, sore throat) and more.

Is it possible that you had a Covid infection prior to the symptoms reappearing in July? There have been reports of EBV symptoms recurring after Covid.

Thank you for getting back to me!
Hmm interesting, I had Covid October of 2020, about 7-8 months before…could this still have an effect?

Perhaps. Some of the post-Covid studies are showing that some side effects you may have escaped during the virus pop up the next time your system is stressed – as with the vaccine immune response, or another Covid infection or another virus.

I was speaking with my immunologist and he mentioned that viruses can upset the immune system and cause these types of symptoms (he was speaking post-viral). In the past, this was often referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) especially in relation to EBV. At some point, our famous CDC (I’m being sarcastic) decided there was a poor correlation between the two. Recently, Stanford University and others have done work on this and they now believe it is real. In particular, Stanford has developed bio markers for CFS. Here is a link to their website https://med.stanford.edu/chronicfatiguesyndrome.html. I believe I saw a paper on this. I will try to find it.
