Ear Popping After Six Treatments of Gemcitabine and Docetaxel

Posted by bbereskin @bbereskin, Jun 27 9:07am

I have just completed my six weekly treatments of Gemcitabine and Docetaxel, which I tolerated well. A few weeks ago, my right ear started popping and now both are doing so, along with pressure and buzzing I also feel as though I have a cold, including a sore throat. Kindly advise if you have experienced this. Thank you.

I have had the same treatment and am now on 4-weekly maintenance with no side effects. I suggest you speak to your doctor(s). Good luck.

I finished six weekly gem/doce treatments three weeks ago. I have not had any ear popping issues. I did get a nasty Urinary Tract Infection after my treatment and was on an antibiotic for 5 days. Maybe gem/doce affects your immune system negatively. I always have ringing in my ears and I do not think it has gotten worse since my treatments.

@bbereskin, did you talk to your oncologist about the side effect of ear popping? Were any helpful suggestions made?

Thank you for asking. The ENT expects it will slowly dissipate, which it has, and we are monitoring it. He advised that the tinnitus and ear popping can occur with Surgery, Trauma, and the like and I am keeping the Urology Team in the loop.

Hi, I am a 76 year old female and have high risk NMIBC Carcinona in Situ. I was diagnosed 3 years ago after a year of UTI's. I never had a UTI before this, so I was ignorant of the causes of UTI's.
I was treated with BCG, but after the 6th, I couldn't tolerate it. After a few TURBT's, I was put on Gem/Doce. I have had 15 treatments. Six weekly and the rest three once a month as a maintenance. I tolerated them pretty good. No symptoms until the last three. Again, UTI's but no bacteria growth this time. I am in remission thank God, but since my last treatment in April I have been taking Pyridium, Advils and use a heating pad. As soon as I stop the pyridium the pain comes back within days. Dr says bladder is irritated from chemo and it should be getting better. But, this is going on for so long. Any ideas/tips for me too.
I don't have the ringing in my ears, by I do have really bad muscle spasms in the legs, mostly during the night. Thank you for listening to my ramblings. I wish you all a good recovery and may God bless you all.

I also get UTI's but with no bacteria growth. So, no antibiotics. I had 15 treatments and the last 3 were brutal with the UTI symptoms. It's been rough. I take pyridium and Advils as needed, and the heating pad makes me feel better. The Dr sees no infection, so he thinks the bladder is irritated from the Gem/Doce. The best part though is that I am cancer free for now. I go back in December for a Cysto.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago. NMIBC high risk, CIS. If anyone has this experience, please give me some advice. Thank you. Blessings to all.
