DVT (deep vein thrombosis) prevention and treatment

I took apixaban, Eliquis, 5 mg twice a day for a year and a half since my DVT and PE episode. Since I take another medication twice a day my haematologist went with apixaban. It seems a lot of people forget the evening dose unless they are used to that routine. Rivaroxaban does the same thing but is 1 dose a day. Last week I learned I have a 6 inch clot in the same area again. I learned that the anticoagulant oral medications have about the same level of efficacy and that repeat clots can occur. They’ve doubled my apixaban dose for a week and will be doing a CT and a blood test for autoimmune disease. I have a heparin allergy and fewer options because of that.

This is a difficult issue and I wish that there would be a good solution for all of us. I had a DVT almost 5 years ago and am still taking another anticoagulant, Eliquis. The way I understand it, the DVT permanently damaged at least one of my leg veins and the leg ulcers are a result. I don’t know of any sure easy cures. I see a vascular surgeon regularly and follow his instructions such as wearing the right compression, exercises and other leg treatments. This all has been moderately successful in decreasing my leg ulcerations. But not a certain cure all. Best wishes for the future.

@mcalcagno Does blood pressures differ significantly between the arms and legs? My guess is that circulation to those legs is sluggish due to microvascular insufficiency

Hello, my husband has had a deep vein thrombosis for about 4 years, from which the pain and ulcerations in his feet are getting worse. to the point that movement is very difficult. They treat him with Rivaroxaban, but there are no improvements in sight

I have a dvt in the femoral vein and popliteal vein. Started taking 5mg of eliquis; but now noticed bleeding with bm. After bm, bm stops. have apt with doctor on Thursday and will suggest lowering to 2.5 or switching to 81 mg aspirin which I took for many years.

Has anyone experiened this while taking eliquis?

No side effects that we were aware of...good luck !

Any side effects from the Eliquis. Since being on Eliquis for four months for right leg DVT, I’ve started experiencing tingling sensations in both legs. About to be referred to neurology. Thanks

By "it" I mean Apixiban. The generic drug for Eliquis. Approx $65 Canadian for 120 tablets.

Hi, I had a DVT and PE back in 2008 at the age of 52, and ended up in ER for 7 days; DRs could not tell me why this happened as my answers to all their questions of do you smoke, have you been on a long plane ride or sitting in a long conference, are you on the pill etc. was no. Blood tests did diagnose that my blood chemistry had changed (do not know why) and my Factor VIII was out of range (high). So, I have been on a blood thinner since then and told I will be for the rest of my life to reduce the risk of blood clots again. I take Warfarin 10mg 1 pill daily, no clots since 2008 and I go every 6 weeks to a health care office to have my blood INR checked to ensure I am within 2-3 range. My DRs at the time could not tell me why my Factor VIII had changed, and they said it is very rare and could not help me with any other information.

I get Eliquis from CanAm Discount Pharmacy for a fraction of the cost. Highly recommend them, especially if you pay for medication out of pocket, like I do. My Medicare consultant recommended them.
