What's your experience with duloxetine (US Brand Name; Cymbalta)?
I was prescribed by my oncologist for the neuropathy in feet and hands. The chemotherapy treatments did this. This drug also states that it is used to treat depression and anxiety. As with any prescription medication, there could be side effects. And a huge list of what not to take with this drug. He also prescribed hydrocodone 5 mg, but to take half of pill four times daily for cancer pain. We’ll, when I got home and read about the Duloxetine use; one of the medications on the list was hydrocodone. I’m now waiting for a call from the oncologist office to see if I can take the Duloxetine with the hydrocodone. Can anyone at least tell me if they have ever taken this medication; Duloxetine? And any side effects?

Greetings Elizabeth, thanks (again) for the follow up and additional information. After much discussion and continued research, I am now in the process of tapering off three meds with the intention of starting [one] Cymbalta to replace them. I hope my body thanks me and that it responds with ease (and efficacy). Your feedback gives me hope and lessens the anxiety about this med. I hope it helps me like it has you! Thanks again for sharing with us. Be well.
@tonkatuff and all...
I am so pleased you are managing your medications so well and making informed decisions with your physician. I was thrilled to get off Gabapantin, Lyrica, Oxycodone and others and having Cymbalta to help with the anxiety and pain. I no longer have the serious brain fog issues or other side effects as I did with the stronger meds. What a great step forward when my doctor and I worked to taper me off these drugs. I am so pleased Cymbalta works for me and expect to continue taking it for as long as I need. Blessings, ess
YES!! eliminating gaba and lyrica will be awesome!!! We had a 'taper call' yesterday and I'm very hopeful. Blessings to you, ess!!
Good Morning. I was referred to a pain management doctor in February 2025, for my idiopathic neuropathy. I had tried Gabatentin, Lyrica, and almost all over the counter meds. I was so depressed after a failed surgery which caused more pain. My family didn’t recognize me, I didn’t recognize myself. I felt like I was going down the rabbit hole…didn’t care if I just laid in pain and felt sorry for myself. And that made me even more depressed as I wanted my old personality and will to live back. Happy to share more background, move forward this Pain Management doctor suggested Duloextine 60 mg….starting with 20mg…increasing over 6 -8 weeks to reach 60 mg. After one week of 20 mg, I was a different person. I actually wanted to live…now the antidepressant hasn’t helped with neuropathy pain, however with this medication I am able to handle it. Come up with solutions, and routines that help with pain. I have read all the negatives, but at age 75 and managing this horrid illness…I praise the drug and what it does for me.
Bravo to you! I felt this post in many ways!!!! I start Cymbalta next week and am eager for positive change!!
Cymbalta has helped me climb out of the hole of depression as well as helping some of my symptoms of Long COVID, at least during the day.
I took from 60 to 120mgs per day of Cymbalta for years for several indications including neuropathy.
It did seem to help and I didn't have too many side effects while I was taking it (maybe some weight gain and some mental fog) but if I ran out or missed a dose or two, I had a lot of issues.
If you take it and decide to stop, I'd encourage you to ask your doctor for a titration plan.
Started duloxetine 1 month ago. I usually don't get the side effects listed for the medicines I take, but with duloxetine I only get about 2.5 hours sleep at night, headaches day and night, sexual side effects, light constipation, and slight hand tremors. It did get get rid of my anxiety along with Buspirone.
First, welcome to the group. I have not used this product. But will be
checking back to see if others might have.
Has been a life saver for me. Obly side effects i have is more easily dehydrated. It has taken my nerve pain from a regular 6/7 every day to a 1/2. The only places I still have consistent pain is my low back from bone spurs.
