Hey mookie 99, Have you tried a cool mist humidifer in your bedroom? Winter months with running the heat can be brutal on sinus cavities for dryness.
Also, Ayr saline (OTC) can help with dry nasal passages? Just a thought for you.
Blessings & Prayers....
I discovered this somewhat by accident. I was having dry eyes during the night and in the morning. I read about using a warm wet washcloth on my eyes before bed for 15 minutes and a few times during the day. Not only did it feel good but my vision improved! What also improved are my sinuses and nasal dryness. Now I use it as I fall asleep. I will wake up in the night to use the bathroom and my vision is clear and nasal passages moist. I also use a vaporizer. Give it a try.
I have it's always dry
I do the warm compress at night and still wake like this sometimes. How long have your dry sinuses lasted ?
I've only had dry sinus since my cancer and radiation. So one year.
@mookie99 I have had issues with dry sinuses in winter frequently. An ultrasonic humidifier by the bed has been the best therapy. The tiny particles of water from this type of humdifier penetrate deeper into the respiratory tract so more effective than a regular humidifier. My hubby is a respiratory therapist so he is knowledgable on these things. I also use Neilmed sinus flush daily when it is bad. As much as I dislike doing this, it really helps. I have better success with the flush bottle than the Neti pot. Being alert to your oral hydration is also important. Sometimes just water isn't keeping up with the need and using an electrolyte solution daily can help. Have you seen an ENT about this long lasting issue?
Yes they want to do a allergy test but this didn't develop until I got a bad cold or flu .it's dry it gives me headache and the turbinate is enlarged. Not even cold so it should be went away so don't see it being the air
You may never get a real diagnosis because the flu virus you had is likely gone, leaving the damage to your sinuses. Your doctor wants to rule out other possibilities that could be aggravating your sinuses further, now that they are damaged. There may not be an easy solution so it is up to you to find the treatments that give you some relief, and work with your doctor to rule out any other causes. We all learned with Covid that these viral infections can leave us with long lasting changes to our body, sometimes affecting many organ systems. Treating the symptoms may be the only option, and allowing for time to help with healing. I hope you find some relief with the changing of the seasons.
Do you think antibiotics would help it ? Or could antibiotics cause the dry out sinuses they have me so 3 rounds
Antibiotics will only work to knock out a secondary bacterial infection that could develop in the sinus after a viral infection. My sinus infections have always included nasal and post nasal drainage of a thick mucous, which cleared up after the antibiotic. I don't believe that antibiotics would cause the dryness, but that's a better question for a doctor or pharmacist.
