Antibiotics will only work to knock out a secondary bacterial infection that could develop in the sinus after a viral infection. My sinus infections have always included nasal and post nasal drainage of a thick mucous, which cleared up after the antibiotic. I don't believe that antibiotics would cause the dryness, but that's a better question for a doctor or pharmacist.
