Does this sound like Long Covid?

Posted by sjde53 @sjde53, 6 days ago

For about five years now, my husband has had crushing fatigue, where he’ll wake up refreshed, but then he’ll need a nap an hour or two later and then take a second nap in the afternoon, and still sleep 11 to 12 hours at night. He doesn’t seem to have post exertional malaise. He also had chest pain and shortness of breath. Those last two eventually went away, but were replaced by dizziness and brain fog about two or three years ago. Then about a year ago he developed a slight hand tremor. His PCP referred him to a movement disorders neurologist. The skin biopsy test for Parkinson’s was negative and his hand tremor is not like the usual Parkinson’s tremor. The neurologist never mentioned Long Covid but that’s what I’m starting to think this is.

@sjde53 I finally had to go to a concierge doctor or what is called a direct care doc which is very similar. Both charge a monthly fee for care even if you have insurance (usually about $100 to $200 per month) but you have much more time with the doctor and can usually get appointments in a day or two. Some require a 6 month minimum commitment and others just charge month to month...so you can try them out and see if they work without a large monetary outlay. They usually do not charge you for appointments and some of them will do blood draws for free.

All of the ones I have gone to allow you to interview the doctor before you commit to payment and that is when you ask them about their experience with long covid and whether they can consult with other docs about a treatment plan.

Just Google "concierge doctor" or "direct care doctor" with the name of your city to find the ones near you.

@vostie He actually did go to one of those for about a year in the middle of all this.

@vostie
They are also known as Boutique doctors.
She was the one who referred him to a movement disorders neurologist. When the slight hand tremor started and the dizziness was causing balance issues.

@sjde53 Mine second one agreed to consult with a long covid specialist before I started paying her. Once we had the list of potential treatments, I signed up and now she is caring for several long haulers.

I will keep the story short, but my journey began in November 2021 after my first and last Moderna booster. I began chasing the idea of long COVID and figuratively speaking visited nearly every specialty Doctor around Charleston, South Carolina in both major medical networks here. Of course I was pronounced completely healthy with no issues. So I went to Mayo Rochester. Same story completely healthy no issues. Well I knew better I suffered from many of the symptoms that long Covid suffers talk about brain fog, post exertion, malaise, etc. Had to take lots of naps just to make it through the day. Good exercise, and if I did, I had to go lay down for a couple hours. Finally found Dr. Patterson who began his treatment for long Covid and between blood test one and blood test two I ceased to make progress which had him direct me to test for Lyme disease and mold illness. Turns out I had mold illness and I’ve been treating that for just a bit over a year and most of my symptoms have gone away and I feel way better better than I felt since November 2021. My brain is sharp. I can exercise as vigorously as I want to and things are looking really good for me. There are crossover symptoms between Parkinson’s and mold illness and that is what confuses the medical community. Lots of good information on YouTube once you sort through the snake oil salesman I wish you the best in your journey to figure out what’s going on.

@arichards3 We asked the neurologist about mold and they brushed it off. Lyme disease too.

@sjde53 my personal experience has taught me that Doctors do not know everything, especially mold. You've read my post, but I saw some pretty great medical professional who completely blew my diagnosis. I was negative and normal and I knew better. Have you been tested for Lyme and Mold is the key question?

@arichards3 What treatments/prescription drugs helped with the mold illness?

Yes, it sounds like Long Covid to me, as that’s kind of how I started. I caught Covid on December 14th of 2022 and after 10 days, developed body tremors, fatigue, brain fog, stuttering, loss of taste and smell and probably some other symptoms that have now since left my body. I’m still stuck with loss of taste and smell and still some brain fog and fatigue on occasion, but that’s much better. I had 7 Stellate Ganglion Block injections to calm the body tremors and the 7th injection did that. I also did acupuncture and had about 20 visits which I don’t believe did much of anything. Most of my symptoms have left my body, but still no taste or smell. Time is what’s healed me, along with the SGB injections. By the way, no doctor will tell you you have Long Covid because then they’d have to treat you and they don’t know how to! My general practitioner is the one who told me I have it, on his last day before he retired! You must do your own research and find things that may help you, because our medical people don’t know! Wishing you all the best on “YOUR” journey!

@vostie Dr. Andrew Campbell's protocol. Remove yourself from or eliminate your mold environment first, then an anti fungal - Itraconazole, and array of supplements that help your body eliminate mycotoxins and recover from mold illness. Some excellent YouTube videos for education. Best of luck.
