Does coughing up blood stop with any treatments?

From October - November 2025 I was coughing up blood clots. Went into ER where they did tests. However, I already had a bronchoscopy scheduled for December so they told me not to come back unless it was a “cup of blood.” Told me to stop taking aspirin. I stopped the aspirin snd coughing up blood stopped until last week, 1/30/26. Now I’m coughing up blood each morning. Have first oncology appt in 3 weeks. My primary doc said I’m ok as still not coughing up a “cup of blood.” Is this normal for stage 4 adenocarcinoma with liver mets? Does it stop with treatment or require surgery?

My boyfriend had stage 2 non small cell lung cancer and they told him the same thing about coughing up a cup of blood. Once he started his treatments he did stop coughing up blood.
His treatments did kill the cancer and he had a lobectomy also. As of his surgery on 11/4/25 he is cancer free. Next PET scan is next Friday.

@artistrose, It's so hard to know how much blood is too much, when it's all alarming. You know what you've seen this round and previously, if it seems like it's more or increasing I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to your primary doc, the ER, or the oncology office for reassurance.
When I was in the process of being diagnosed, I was coughing up blood. Not just in the morning. I had a pretty consistent wheeze when I breathed too. It did resolve on its own once I started treatment.
How's your breathing?

Yes, I cough up blood other times of the day, but more so when I wake up. I did see my primary doctor last week and she told me the signs to look for if I need to go to ER. She said with the amount I showed her (on tissues) I could cough that up several times a day up to my oncology appt snd still be ok. I’ll see her next week again for a check in. I just wondered if treatment might end this and it seems that might be true.

My oncologist said I should notify him if I coughed up more than a tablespoon of blood. My coughing issues lessened after the second round of chemotherapy.

@denzie Thanks. I’m disturbed by the coughing up blood, but my doctor states my amounts aren’t too much. It’s good to know that chemo might lesson or end this.
