Testing for Cdiff. Celiac disease. Irritable bowel syndrome. Food allergies. When’s the last time you had a colonoscopy? Polyps. The list is long with diarrhea. I take tums or antacids. Imodium helps. Too much coffee also.

Hello, I have the same chronic dirreah. It's been a problem for about five years. I've had two colonoscopys recently. Nothing the doctor could find that caused my symptoms. Now they call it IBS D. Currently they are giving me dicyclomine, diphenox/atrop, promethazine and loperamide hydrochloride for my symptoms . My doctor ordered every diagnostic procedure to determine the cause of my chronic diarrhea.
He could not locate the cause.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this
problem.
My doctor wants to do a second colonoscopy to see if he missed anything. My insurance will not cover a second colonoscopy.
This issue has made me a hermit. I do not go out of my house to anything but doctor appointments . Anyone have insights to this?

So I have dealt with this but I found the trigger. I have celiac disease plus I am lactose intolerant. So no wheat no dairy I am good to go. Food logs are helpful for some. What you eat when you eat. IBS is a phrase that has many meanings but little insight to why. From caffeine to stress. I have always looked at diarrhea as a way your body is projecting something out ASAP. You don’t describe cramps or stomach aches. Nausea is another biggie. I used to schedule all my appointments in the morning. Did not eat or drink till I got home. Then eat. Sorry your going thru this.

I had a colonoscopy about 4 years ago...this occurred during Covid... I realized that we were eating beans all the time!I believe that was a BIG factor!

Thank you for the comment. I went through all the tests and nothing seemed to match. My diet is pretty bland. Rice, baked potatoes and bread. Water too. My diet is definitely restricted due to my chronic diarrhea. My gastro said he has a couple of additional tests for me including the colonoscopy.
The insurance will limit the tests. Thanks again for the comment but I've tried it already.

Sorry drawing up blanks for you. Tests for Cdiff. Stool cultures. Ova and parasitic infections are the usual lab tests. Then more invasive procedures like endoscopy and colonoscopy. Testing for celiac disease and food allergies thru blood work. But with no nausea or cramping makes for a difficult prognosis. But a competent GI doctor will eventually find the cause. Good luck.
