Does anyone have BE, MAI, with Rheumatoid Arthritis?
I have BE, then diagnosed with MAI. Blood test showed high RA factor, any correlation?

This chart shows that there is correlation.

@playadelcarmen It seems there is a correlation between rheumatoid arthritis (with or without high RA factor) and bronchiectasis. It makes sense - both are inflammatory processes attacking your body.
I see you have had Bronchiectasis for some time - do you also have RA? Is your bronchiectasis progressing or is it stable?
There is a correlation between BE and autoimmunity -- especially RA and inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's in particular. I have Crohn's and it has been basically well controlled on humira for several years. I am in month 9 of antibiotic treatment for MAC/MAI discovered a year ago, with BE discovered 13 years ago and considered mild even with MAC.
BE stable, MAI stable. RA flare up a BIG surprise. One week walking two miles then I could hardly walk to the bathroom. Dr prescribed 5 days of Prednisone, pain from 10 to 2. Going to Dr for RA and orthopedic for hip and knee damage from fall. 78 and still going, not done yet.
Wow, did you take Big 3, I did not. This RA factor being high has me concerned. I have something lots of autoimmune diseases that would do this. Just have to find and treat it. Keep up the great work, seems you found the answers.
Hi ... I am in a study taking ethambutol + Azithromycin and either arikayce or placebo (no rifampin). I was also concerned about starting treatment and whether the docs would want to stop the humira so my immune system would not be suppressed. They said NO absolutely stay on humira since it has kept crohns in remission, and all the more reason to treat, so the Mac would not progress or spread (disseminate, which is rare but serious).
My Crohn's Dr works with my expert BE Dr, they share patients who have both.
Do you plan to aggressively follow up on the RA factor? That can indicate other autoimmunity, not just RA.
Yes I have bronchiectasis with MAC colonization. Never on meds as I do not have active MAC infection. Having R A meds puts one at additional risks for infections. All are stable presently. Due diligence all the time.
I have had Rheumation Arthritis for about 20 years. September of 2024 diagnosis of BE and a couple of infections was given. So far all is stable. My docs are all in communication watching status.
Pulm Doc said that it is very common for these diseases are experienced together
