Does anyone have any questions about papillary thyroid cancer?
I am a 25 year survivor of papillary thyroid cancer and have been volunteering for many years answering many questions from people who have papillary thyroid cancer and have questions about it. I would be happy to answer any questions from people who have concerns about thyroid cancer.

Does anyone do complimentary treatments like vitamin c iv? I have non reactive papillary cancer.
@colleenyoung Had right side removed 2 months ago - TC PTC with BRAF and TERT mutations. Doing well and will have the other side removed next month.

1 Reaction@djmlex, we are all so different and have individual responses to drugs. Thanks for posting. When were you diagnosed with thyroid cancer? How are you doing now?

1 Reaction@tessma if it were me and I was worried I would want to get a second opinion from a doctor that’s very familiar with thyroid cancer it can’t hurt. Good luck to you going forward!!!

2 ReactionsHi, I am 22 and just had hemi done. Had left lobe and isthmus removed bc of two nodules classic papillary type. Clear margins no angio invasion. But left worried because there was lymphatic invasion. Thoughts? They are going to wait and watch it.

2 Reactions@barbaradalton if it were me I would ask the endocrinologist that I’m going to for his opinion about when the surgery should be and arecommendation for a good surgeon who knows exactly what he’s doing with thyroid cancer!!! The more information that you have the better off you will be!!!2 when you’re having surgery for thyroid cancer you need a surgeon who really does a lot of this type of surgery and knows exactly what he’s doing I don’t like the idea of a junior surgeon!!! my very best wishes to you going forward and have a very happy holiday!!!

2 ReactionsHi, Have you thought about contacting a different hospital or practice to see if their senior surgeon has an earlier appointment available? I would ask friends and family if they recommend a surgeon and then do your own research to see if it is a surgeon you would feel comfortable with.
I can definitely see your concern having the complication with your surgery.
I actually saw five different surgeons before making my decision.

3 ReactionsYes! My husband has a 1.4 cm papillary carcinoma. He was diagnosed at Northwestern and it is a 6 month wait for a presurgical consult in order to book the senior surgeon. We could go with a more junior surgeon but he is 72, has heart issues and I had same surgery with complications (nicked vocal cord) so we feel the best option is to wait. The plan is to do a 3 month follow up ultrasound to see if there is any growth that is concerning. Is this a smart plan or should we opt for an earlier surgery with the more junior surgeon? Thanks!
