Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

Good evening, @tcramer623. Welcome to Connect. I am happy to see your first post and hope you have several posts from other neuropathy folks. Would you be able to tell us more about your neuropathy "story," including the type of neuropathy and the medical recommendations you have found helpful? For example, I did not have burning feet until recently. Now, I have not only burning feet but also ice-cold feet. My feet swell and change color to a purple or blue color.

One of the things I have just started doing is wearing socks up to 24 hrs a day. I know the temperature issues are from the inside of my feet, but it helps not to make them too cold or hot. I also have MFR, myofascial release therapy, twice a week to keep my feet as pain-free as possible. That service is such a gift.

Over the last few years, I have been comfortable in Mephisto daytime shoes with side zippers, so I don't have to deal with laces. My outdoor walking shoes are Hokas with high insteps and stretch laces that are easy to keep tied. I think the high instep is essential and makes a huge difference.

Hoping to hear from you and get to know your situation better.

May you be safe, protected and free of inner and outer harm.
Chris

I have found unfortunately that crocs and Brooks shoes are helpful. Brooks are a bit pricey but worth every penny.

What type of Brooks?

I have some relief with shore inserts such as Naot. I get a lot of relief with soft slippers, unfortunately, I can't wear them outside, although I did once. I'm going to try some of the shoes mentioned here.

I am going thru the same problem. I’ve ordered, sent back, gone to stores to try on, think maybe I’ve found a pair that works, then have to return these as well! So frustrating. It doesn’t help that my feet are different sizes on different days.

It doesn’t help that my feet are different sizes on different days. My left foot is smaller than my right. I have arthritis and neuropathy. It’s so painful. I am 69 and feel my feet and legs are going to stay this way now. I might firm up a bit but nothing major or particularly helpful. I have adjusted my walk for almost a lifetime due to rh arthritis diagnosed at 18 months old. My left leg grew longer due to fever in it when a child. I used to wear a lift but no more. It didn’t particularly help.
I think about so many of you suffering from one thing or another and admire you for keeping your spirits up. I also identify with you when you are down and just sick and tired of the stress we endure. God Bless you and hang in there. I am truly thankful for the support of groups such as this.

I also have been diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy and sensory Polyneuropathy. My rheumatologist thinks I have another autoimmune disease (I have lupus), possibly ms or Sjogrens. Can I ask how you were diagnosed with Sjogrens? I have two MRIs this week. I will look into the Tevas. Thank you.
