Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

I’m wearing the Altra brand because they fit my need for a wide toe box and flexible sole. Even so I need to buy the ones made for men and add an orthotic. But have finally found stability and moderate comfort. It has been a long search. Other brands recommend here did not work for me. It is quite a time consuming individual purchase. Hang in there until you find what works for you.

I have spinal stenosis with some neuropathy which caused balance problems that resulted in several falls. A little over a year ago I ran across Ortho Feet shoes online. They are an orthopedic shoe that come with arch inserts to customize for your particular situation. I now have several pairs of the shoes, and two pairs of boots. No fall problems since. You get a 60-day wear test with free return if not satisfied. I was a runner for over 50 years and did marathons, half marathons and everything in between. Just over 2 years ago, the stenosis hit. No falls since the shoes, and I do the treadmill daily along with strength and balance exercises. Still wish I could run, but I am very thankful for what I can still do, and the shoes are great. I did return a couple of pairs and got some from the company that better fit my needs. They took the shoes back, no questions asked, and the turnaround time on the replacements was only about two weeks. Very satisfied.

Same here. The Ortho Feet inserts are the best by far.

I have found Ortho Feet to be very helpful and have put their arch supports in some other shoes. I would suggest that you give them a try. I also wear a pair of Hike shoes, with and without socks, around the house as slippers.

i’ve noticed when I suggest a test or anything having to do with my neuropathy the doctors do not like to be told about possible treatments i suggest or medication. , they only giv me gabapentin which helps mildly , I feel like they just it makes our relationship even more awkward.

Of course, they don't like it, they are the "know-it-alls" and you are the dumb ass in need of their training and wisdom. If I can't have a meaningful conversation with any doctor about something I have read about, I look for another doctor. I had an excellent doctor tell me that I had more time to research my condition (peripheral neuropathy) online and the different ways to seek relief than he did and he would be happy to discuss anything I read with me.

After reading many recommendations concerning the best shoes for neuropathy, I find there is little consensus. This is to say that each person suffering from neuropathy is different from the next, and the only way to find what works for you is to try as many shoes/sneakers as possible. Speaking for myself, I wear Nike Air Monarch IV sneakers with Ortho Feet inserts. This Nike model has an air-cushioned foot bed that, when coupled with the Ortho Feet inserts, has given me back my mobility. But that's just me.

I really can't tell that the barefoot shoes make my spine worse. I know that everything is out of whack in my spine.
The barefoot shoes give me a sense of stability. There is more confidence while walking as I can feel the ground a little bit better.
