Do you use Cialis or Viagra for penile rehabilitation post-RARP?

Posted by topf @topf, Aug 21 4:29pm

When I had my catheter removed the nurse practioner gave me two options: Viagra three times per week or Cialis daily. She said that they offer the two options because if one has bad side effects with one, they switch to the other, but that in terms of outcomes, the two were equivalent.

I chose Viagra, but after doing more research and watching some videos it seems that Cialis is more common and Viagra used as backup if Cialis is not tolerated.

What are/were your experiences with either?

I'm sure you know this, but be careful with anything grapefruit as it affects other meds in a big way.

It's an extract, not direct grapefruit and it's not quite the same and has had no downside. I didn't do this on a whim or from a google search, this was recommended by a urologist directly to me.

My physician assistant told me not to take both cialis and viagra. Also, don’t exceed 100 mg of viagra. That’s the max dose. I switched from Cialis to Viagra.

Thanks! What made you switch? Was it side effects?

I use both. Cialis daily and both before my trimix injection. Night time erection coming back. Arousal not back yet. Only been off hormone meds two months.

I had the prostate surgery and they thought they got it, they did not. So 5 weeks of radiation, for 8 months if am ok right now. But erections with cialis or viagra sort of work but I can not keep it up so for 3 months I (and my wife ) just live and love and do things together. It would be nice if I could do more, but when you try and it does not work, for me it is better to just wait.

Here's a great video discussing penile rehab after surgery. At 11:01 he discusses using both cialis and viagra. I'm not a medical professional and don't know what's best for you, but I thought you might want to see it:

Great information.
My Dr. didn't go into vacuum devices thoroughly. I'm "up" for using it more often along with sildenafil.

I've been on daily Cialis 5mg since my surgery in March 2014.

Even while on ADT...

My surgery was nerve sparing and around 12 months I more or less full regained erectile function. Granted, takes greater physical and mental stimulation, orgasms are dry...

I use the Good Rx, 90 day supply varies but typically in the $15-30 dollar range.

UCSF has a decent Penile Rehabiklitation Program for more complex cases - https://www.ucsfhealth.org/conditions/erectile-dysfunction

I'd suggest also looking at UCSF information @kujhawk1978 posted in another response:

It's really well presented and UCSF is a CCOE. Best Wishes.

I'm curious about the cost. 30 bucks for 90 days?
Is that a cheaper price for prostate cancer patients, or is that the standard price?

It's 200 bucks for 1 month supply of 5mg Cialis down here, cause it's not funded for cancer patients.
It's still "under consideration".
