Do You Need Skin Removal Surgery due to weight loss?
I’m interested in hearing from those who either have had skin removal surgery, due to substantial weight loss or feel they may need it in the future. I have lost 70 pounds so far and have 20-30 pounds to go….and I’m seeing loose skin that is bothersome. I’ve heard that for those over 50, it’s more problematic. I’m thrilled with my weight loss, but the skin is something I don’t I can tolerate.
Does insurance cover it? Hmmm….any information from those who have had it is appreciated. (Full disclosure, I haven’t had bariatric surgery, but this forum seems like the right place for the discussion.)

I do get a lot of comments from people who haven’t seen me since the weight loss (not so much anymore since my weight loss was in 2018 and skin removal was in 2019). And yes, underneath the clothes is a whole different story!
@tslayden , Good luck with you too!
Just curious, do you get a lot of comments from people who haven’t seen you since the weight loss? I get a lot of compliments and shocked reactions. I do enjoy it. But, they don’t see what I do underneath the clothes. So…..
It is a very tough decision. I’ll keep you posted and good luck to you,

1 Reaction@tslayden , please post updates as you can.
Usually, about once per week, I do stand naked and consider what I really want and its priority. Tough decision.
Last time it was inpatient (2-3 days) and it was general anesthesia . Since I have already been. asked to pay for the anesthesia I am assuming it is general this time also. I don’t meet with my surgeon until Oct 23 so I am not sure of the particulars. she is being very careful to talk to all of my doctors since i have some other health problems. She is making sure to get their ok.

2 Reactions@tslayden , oh ok! Best wishes with that. Is it outpatient? General anesthesia?
I have it planned for Oct 30.I am getting a breast reduction (smaller
implants), an uplift, and a reduction of that lump under my breasts.

@tslayden , that is a lot of work. It’s good it turned out good except the place on your breast. I’ve considered an uplift. I’m still a DDD even after weight loss. I like that though and don’t want smaller breast.
My neck will probably be my first project. How likely is it that you will have a revision of your breast?
I had skin removal surgery in 2019 after I had lost 100 pounds (down from 230# ). My biggest problem was having too much done at once: breasts, stomach, both legs, groin area. The groin area was most painful and took the longest to get over. Since that time I have had a fainting spell that unfortunately made my breasts hang at slightly different levels, and I also had a surgery on my stomach for a twisted colon. I had already been concerned that my breasts were too big, and this second surgery made a lump across my chest that looks like a second set of breasts. I have been going to regular PT for the past 6 moths and have gotten much stronger. But now I want smaller breasts and a reduction of that lump from the previous surgery. I had always been concerned about my breasts being too large and wish I had pushed for that earlier. I am 72 years old now but just decided this was something I really wanted for myself.

Thank you for being open and honest with your health journey. You are an example of perseverance and success! 👍😁
Do you mind sharing with all of us what exactly those “strength exercises” were that you did (or didn’t do as much as you think you should have) as you were losing weight between 270 pounds down to 131 pounds after you had Roux NY surgery back in 2024?
I realize I need strength exercises to gain muscle. I haven’t had Bariatric surgery, but have lost 35 pounds in 6 months with Mounjaro + 2 supplements recommended by endocrinologist + low carb (less than 60 grams per day) + recumbent biking.
Thank you for sharing with those of us still striving to do what you’ve accomplished. 👏🏻👍
