At the age of 76 years I had a TBI 21 years ago. Recently I have been prescribed Statin Drugs. While taking it, my reluctance has increased as did my forgetfulness . Do Statin drugs affect your brain?

I would say it depends on the statin, the dose, and the individual.
Sorry I can't be more definitive....
I have been on a low dose of a statin for more than 15 years and do not feel it has affected my brain in any way.
What dose are you on?

1 ReactionMy dose is 1 gram/day. I began to take the does on two different occasions. Each time three days after I started to take the drug I would become forgetful and perhaps mildly disoriented. Is this termed to having "brain fog"? (I wonder what does "brain fog" mean?). I shared this with my family and they talked me back into Statin usage.
@slarson14 I am prescribed to take 5 milligram.
@martinvandyk, I have been on statins for a couple of years now - rosuvastatin and ezetimibe - and I've not noticed any effects on my brain (or my brain is just too fried for me to know!).
Here are a few resources from Mayo Clinic on the topic of statins and effects on the brain:
- Statin side effects: Weigh the benefits and risks https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013

You might also look on googlescholar.com and do a search for published medical and scientific papers on statins and the brain from researchers worldwide.
Have you gotten the chance to look up the side effects for the particular statin you are taking? If so, did the forgetfulness or reluctance you mentioned appear? Have you by chance mentioned these effects to your prescribing doctor?

1 Reaction@martinvandyk 5mg of a statin is pretty low and should not cause brain fog, IMHO.

My thought was why the seemingly 'deliberate' change of brain affect?
I also take Magnesium and Lion's Mane. Thus my cramps have left my legs and I sleep much better. Lion's Mane has seemingly provided clarity of thought. (I must add that this health analyzing of self is new to me. Conclusion: I have to wait and see.)
