DNA drug testing
I have Medtronic pain pump (oral pain medication for years prior) and no real relief after high dose increases snd break through medicine. I had DNA drug testing done and found out that I don’t metabolize any pain medications and many other medications and they build up in my system. I am curious if anyone else has done this testing or even knows about it.

I found out from DNA testing that I don't get much kick from the caffeine in coffee plus a couple other unimportant observations. I understand that DNA testing can help determine which antidepressants are likely to be the most effective for a person.
I have also done pharmogenomic testing and found out i metabolize most of medications faster or slower than some meds or don’t feel some. I don’t get effects from NSAIDs or opioids. they have to increase doses of things like antidepressants and anxiety meds for them to work for me things like that.
@bajjerfan similar testing available to determine a person’s response to some powerful cancer meds—effectiveness and/or possibly difficult side effects… always ask oncologists about these (not for all meds, though).
I had the clarityx dna test done and found out I don’t metabolize tramadol, some opioids and most meds for mood. It was the best $ I ever spent. I take it with me if I am seeing a new doctor or even for an ER visit. Helps in selecting effective meds that I metabolize.
@crbarefoot any more info about this ?
@nycmusic Clarityx is available online. I paid ?about $400 and got the complete medication panel. They send you a kit and you just swab the inside of your mouth and return the swab by mail. I then had a virtual visit with a pharmacologist who reviewed the results with me. It was very informative. Most drugs require enzymes to work and if you are lacking this, drugs can be ineffective and/or worse build up to toxic levels in your system. I would recommend DNA testing to everyone. In fact, we just gave it to my mother-in-law for mother ‘s day.
Hope this is helpful.

1 ReactionThanks very much…cancer centers do similar tests, usually blood test, to see if a drug will work with the patient—not all drugs, but the ones known for causing reactions….recently made those rests routine…. Wondering if you get a readout online for reference.
@nycmusic Clarityx gives you a printout. I keep it online and in a separate notebook at home.
@crbarefoot. Thanks so much !
