Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) practitioners and clinics for spinal pain?

Posted by ascari @ascari, Jan 20 11:05am

Is there anyone who tried DMSO for his spine problems con back pain especially lower back pain? If so how was it administered: orally, topically, intravenously? Is it possible to administer it intramuscularly?
Does anyone know doctors or clinics I could turn to to get treated via telemedicine? Mine is a form of very stubborn chronic pain, resistant to anything and aggravated by fibromyalgia at an advanced stage. Please help!

I haven't heard about anyone using DMSO in decades. And that was for a horse instead of a human. I believe it is absorbed through the skin so would be applied topically. Any contaminants or impurities in the DMSO would also be absorbed through the skin so you need high purity material for this. There may be other risks so you should do some research before trying.

@vincescs I agree. DMSO is a proven toxin for humans. Can’t believe or understand why someone is peddling this junk after so many years. My mother suffered severe heart attack while using DMSO 40 years ago. And don’t believe it if purveyors say it’s “new” or “improved “. Sorry. I know chronic pain can make any promise of relief seem tempting.

Hello @ascari,

As a few members have pointed out, DMSO is approved only for interstitial cystitis in the United States (https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/dimethyl-sulfoxide-intravesical-route/description/drg-20063424).

Claims that dimethyl sulfoxide is effective for treating various types of arthritis, ulcers in scleroderma, muscle sprains and strains, bruises, infections of the skin, burns, wounds, and mental conditions have not been proven.

There has been an uptick in social media popularity that DMSO can treat many different ailments, but those claims are not currently back by research or approval.

@ascari, it sounds like you are dealing with chronic pain that has you searching for any answers. What sort of treatments have you tried? Were any successful at all?

@JustinMcClanahan lots and lots of them, I would say practically all, with no results. There is extensive literature about DMSO showing its efficacy and safety when properly dosed. If you know anything really effective please let me know. Thanks

You can find studies, applications and suggested sources on a substack written by A Midwestern Dr. The forgotten side of medicine. A clean source is very important as well as how you apply (topically) and also not applying anything on top of wet skin that shouldn't be absorbed. I used on one shoulder that I thought was arthritis. I seemed to get some relief some days and that is the most I can say. I have a new MRI report and new issues after being rear-ended and would use DMSO if there were studies supporting. There are many real studies showing efficacy for other issues.
